Strolling up 14th Street I am almost shit myself. I didn't take the bus there becuase I did not have enough money for the bus. I should have scrounged because I was in the absolute worst part of DC. I was the only white guy for blocks and everyone was eyeballing me. But anyway, I arrived there on time and safely. Sanctuary Theater was one the hottest places I have ever seen a show, I mean I was literally dripping sweat, but it was cool. Fugazi for the second night in a row. This show was a benefit for the Emmaus Community Center and the show was put on by Positive Force DC. Support them and get involved because they are making a difference. The first band was Quix*o*tic. Kind of retro, very cool. They were kind of early Sleater-Kinney meets Dick Dale. The guitarist was wonderful. She was slamming out the surf licks through the whole set. I really enjoyed them, they kept me moving. The only bad thing is that the vocals were completely drowned out. To sum it up, they got a good thing going and you should definitely check them out. The second band was Shine who could have passed for Motorhead and were basically a heavy metal band. They are a good band, but they are not my cup of tea. Between the bands, Mark and Charlie gave moving speeches about punk rock and Positive Force, which helped rile the crowd up even more for Fugazi. "We are Fugazi, we are from Washington DC" and then they tore into their first number and with equal force tore open the church with a wonderful performance of "Bed for the Searching". Their set was equal parts force and comfort, they delved into the Thurstonness and reggaeness of the night before, but it seemed that tonight it had more menaing, more purpose. You could tell that Ian and Guy were trying to make a point because even while the sweat poured down off of them, they continued playing, full ahead. They ended their set flying and then came back for an encore. "Brendan #1", then "Break". Unfortunately I had to leave early, so I did not get to hear the rest. I'm sure it was as great as the rest of their set. Go team lol.
