Striking a match, the fire was lit. This was Deep Lust's second to last show. Steve (the drummer) is moving back west. Everyone was there. Michele and Ian were there, so was Joe and Guy, even Dancing Larry was there! Steve and the guitarist stepped onto the stage, wrapped in toilet paper, but Alison had not returned from Fresh Fields yet. She returned a few minutes later, wrapped herself in toilet paper, and they whipped into their set. Fierce and biting, just like the night they opened for the Make Up. While they were playing, Ian danced through the crowd, handing out flyers and shaking booty. We even danced for awhile during "Suck Your Thumb". During the final song, Alison came down and sang in the crowd and she handed the mic to a guy in the crowd who continued in whatever direction she had started. After awhile Trans Am hit the stage. They were like a cool cup of water right before you go to bed, the kind that will keep you up all night dreaming of dragons and demons and wildly sweating while screaming for your mom. The first song was full on: bass, drums, sampler, drum machine, and more. This the kind of music that sends people into padded rooms. I just sat there on the ground playing drums on my legs and admiring the bruises that I had obtained. I did not care. The next song was full on guitar, bass, and drums. No one dared to get up. We, the listeners were scared, just taking it all in. Their last two attacks consisted of more of the same, but extreme variety was taken for a drive down the unbeaten path. Like nothing i have ever heard before. This is the second to last week of free Fort Reno shows--catch them while you can.
