The Clocks/Bluetip/At the Drive In

08.06.99...First Unitarian Church Philadelphia, PA

This was another nice Friday night show. I was supposed to meet a co-worker at this show, but she never showed up. I did end up running into Jack, Grant, and this guy John I have never met before (he was cool). Before heading to the church, we hit the dollar store, a pizza shop on Chesnut, and the proverbial punk rock church Wawa before going inside. The Clocks were the first band on. They are a local band with a different sound, very 60's meets 90's. I was impressed...they are someone to definitely check out.

The band I had come to see was second, Bluetip. Bluetp are a newer generation DC band, with the sound that you would expect from a band being from this town. This was the first time I had heard anything extensive from them, but I really liked them. They just put out "Join Us", their second album, which has been getting alot of good reviews. Unfortunately, the sound was bad, which kind of marred their performance, as well as the set of the next band, At the Drive In. ATDI was very loud and noisy and it got to the point where I just had to leave because I could not take it anymore. I ended up leaving the show early and missing what everyone said was a wonderful set. I guess I was missing something because ATDI just did not impress me. So, there I sat, with my ringing ears on the train headed home...
