the Capitol City Dusters/Dismemberment Plan/Faraquet/Burning Airlines

08.28.99...Chameleon Club Lancaster, PA

Lancaster will go down in history as the tackiest town to see shows, plus the kids are always weird. To top it all off, I never run into anyone I know there (probably because I don't know anyone there...). Tonight was a different story, well at least in running into the people I know part. The show began at 6.30, but i only got there at 8, during the DC Dusters set. This was the first time I've seen them after missing several great opportunities while I was in DC. Anyway, they played that familiar form of DC rock that we have all have grown to love. Not totally new, but definitely unique.

The Plan was up next! I missed them last August due to a rainout at Fort Reno and a couple of times this year when they played at the Church and so on, but they more than made up for it with this show. Travis Morrison looks like he could be a suburban dad or an office worker, but he decided to be a crazed indie rock star. The Plan play a totally uniue blend of dancey, groovey post hardcore. Some of their songs are downright funky. Out of all the bands I saw tonight, they were by far my favorites. After their set, I wandered back to the merch tables with the intent of buying a shirt when I ran into my friend Michelle M. who I haven't seen since November! It was too cool, and we chatted it up and caught up while Faraquet was playing. It was far enough for me to drive to the tacky town of Lancaster alone (about 45 mins), but she braved it for an hour plus all alone from Delaware County. Tough girl.

Last, but definitely not least was Burning Airlines, who I've seen a total of five times. This was not any different then the previous times, forceful, driving rock, reminiscient of Jawbox's finest, and they played a few new ones, too. They'll be touring with the Promise Ring this fall, so you know what that means!
