Dymaxon/Stereolab

11.09.99...Trocadero Philadelphia, PA

Ahh, finally a chance to see Stereolab. The drive down was fun, especially when Rebecca and I were driving through North Philly and I made the mistake of flipping off a rude guy behind me. When I stopped at the light, he came around to my side, stopped, and then shouted something obscene at me. At least he didn’t have a gun. Before going to the Troc, we stopped at Sam and Shaina’s for a bit. While Rebecca and Shaina did girl type things, Sam and I chatted about some new hip-hop albums such as Mos Def and the Roots. Damn, I should have gone to the Mos Def show.

When we got there, I bummed around for a bit looking for Kara, who did not show up because she was sick, and I bumped into Maria, who seemed to be a bit preoccupied. Dymaxon was not that good. Very unimpressed. I think they are ex-Pastels, and one would figure they would be good then. Guess not.

Stereolab hit the stage and kicked off the set with “Brakhage”. They played mostly off of the new album, occasionally throwing in older tracks in, such as “Metronomic Underground”. They were on, playing a great, great show, with a brilliant light show. There was an obvious chemistry between the band, which worked really well, as well as a couple of nicely placed jokes. They came out for an encore, and left after playing well over an hour.
