Aug. 95 - Present Telephone Service Representative, Social Security
Administration:
Interviewed beneficiaries or inquirers or their representatives to
determine the nature
of their problem or interest, explained technical provisions, elicit
relevant facts,
and resolve problems with payments or eligibility. Identified callers’
need for social
services and refers them to appropriate private, nonprofit or government
organizations
supplying such services. Successfully inputted data into computer system
to process a
wide variety of actions (e.g., claims applications for disability,
retirement, SST,
change of address, direct deposit, under and overpayment issues, etc.).
Used the computer system to obtain information on the status of earnings
records,
beneficiary payment histories, and beneficiary Medicare status. Demonstrated

Previous Active Military Service 1966-1974
Until I was honorably discharged from the Army in 1974, I had served
in a variety of
increasingly responsible positions, the last one as a computer center
manager, in which I
was responsible for the budgeting, planning, & resource development
of a computer
operations center, & supervision of 50 personnel, to include facilities
operation and
maintenance oversight. I ensured compliance with regulations and procedures
pertaining to
daily processing (7 days/week) of automated reports for a major Army
combat unit.
While serving as a computer plans and operations officer (Okinawa, Japan: 1969-1972):
Wrote command-wide regulations that cost effectively identified procedures
to
administer new and existing automated management information reports
which resulted in
a national award for outstanding performance of duty.
Recommended upgrade of card processors to a mini-computer with 4:1 cost
savings of
$200,000 projected over system life cycle.
Volunteer & Related Activities
1994-1995 I am a certified HIBAC counselor. Worked with the DSA Medicare
Health
Insurance Counseling (MHIC) Program in providing computer support (when
needed) &
dealing with elderly clients (e.g., provided counsel & advice concerning
Medicare,
Medicaid, Health Insurance). Worked with other volunteers in completion
of monthly
reports.
1993-1994 Served with American Red Cross (Silver Spring, MD & Albuquerque,
NM) in
planning & resource development of disaster preparedness &
automation management
information programs.
1993 Worked with Rockville, MD volunteers in planning for special events.
Coordinated
with various city organizations, Rockville’s Office of the Mayor &
veterans
organizations on an ongoing basis.
1992-1994 Scheduled volunteer speakers for the American Legion (Damascus,
