Since I know you're all dying to know what I'm playing in my CD player and on my comp at any given time, I've made up this little section to give people an idea of what I listen to other than that other band that seems to take up so much of my time.
So, here we go. I'll update this page here whenever the hell I feel like it and use it to my own evil ends to promote bands I like, because I'm sure the two people reading this at any given time will undoubtedly rush out and buy the CDs tout suite.
Music@Work -- The Tragically Hip
I've been listening to M@W now for a few months after I broke down and grabbed the way-early leaked mp3s and I've been loving it ever since. (And yes, I did buy the CD when it came out a few weeks ago.)
M@W is definitely the best Hip album... well, since Phantom Power. The Hip are simply one of the most consistent bands out there, and M@W continues their tradition of producing excellent albums. It can get kind of cryptic at times as Gord Downie continues to experiment with word-play and just plain weird imagery, but the songs are all tremendously singable (try not to sing along to 'My Music At Work', 'The Completists' and 'Putting Down' -- they're infectious) and the Baker-Langlois rhythm section provides some mighty groovin' riffs throughout the album.
I've also been listening to the 24 May 2K MuchMusic Intimate & Interactive mp3s. I can't believe I missed them that night, but I suppose it was the day after my college graduation... For live Hip mp3s and videos, check out thehip.org...
Favorite tracks: 'My Music At Work', 'Putting Down', 'The Completists', 'Freak Turbulance'... hell, the whole album's good.
R.E.M. Unplugged
Okay, so this isn't really an album, but after listening to the mp3s for the past few weeks, I've been digging this show immensely. 'Perfect Circle', 'Half A World Away', 'Swan Swan H'... so beautiful acoustic it's almost a tragedy.
To find these mp3s, you can use Napster or join Under The Bunker, an R.E.M. fan community that uses the Hotline client to share files. You can also find the tunes on an R.E.M. bootleg CD called Pluggelectric.
Favorite tracks: 'Half A World Away', 'Disturbance At The Heron House', 'Perfect Circle'
From Here To Eternity -- The Clash
I'll admit that I've only been a Clash fan for a couple of months now, but man I dig these guys. I've been listening to 'The Magnificent Seven', 'I Fought The Law' and 'London Calling' tight out for the past few weeks and I'm definitely hooked. They've got such a great beat to them, so energetic and groovin'. It's really kind of hard to explain... you'll have to try it out yourself.
Favorite tracks: 'The Magnificent Seven', 'I Fought The Law', 'London Calling'
That's pretty much it for now.
Isn't my musical life intensely interesting?
