I dislike all subjects but History and Political Science, so it would stand to reason that they would be my major. It's not a terribly popular program; most people think history is "boring" and/or a waste of time. I couldn't disagree more. Now, I don't pretend to study history because 'the past must be preserved', 'those who do not learn from the past are doomed to repeat it', blah blah blah. I study it because I love it. I have no reason why. I just do. So far, I see two major benefits in being in a major that no one else likes. First of all, when I go to the library to research, I never have to worry that "Franklin Roosevelt's New World Order" and "John Adams: A Biography" will be checked out by someone else. Usually these books are shoved in a dark (quiet) corner and covered with a couple inches of dust. Secondly, since there are so few history/poli sci majors, I get to pester my professors even more. There are currently four professors in the department, and I adore them all equally (though, as everyone knows, some fourths are more equal than others). I still don't know what I want to do after college...most of the careers listed for my major sound incredibly boring. I suppose that is to be expected--after all, who's heard of of someone that's a historian by day and superhero at night? Though my future may be unclear, I may as well study what I enjoy now, and worry about all those little details later.
