Crystals You can make your own crystals!
You need a lot of salt, about 2 cups of water, some string, a jar, and a pencil.
Boil the water on the stove. Get your parent to help if you are small ok?
Pour the VERY HOT water into a glass measuring cup that is bigger than the water. Add some salt. Stir until you can't see the salt anymore. Add some more salt. Stir some more. Add some MORE salt! Stir some more. Keep doing this until no more salt will go into the water. You can tell because the salt won't dissolve anymore. It's ok to have a little bit of undissolved salt in the water.
Now, tie the string onto the middle of the pencil. Pour the salty water into the jar and stick the string down into the water. Make sure the string doesn't touch the bottom of the jar.
Put the jar in a place where it won't be bothered. In just a few hours, you'll see crystals forming on the string! When the crystals stop growing, take the string out of the jar and let the crystals dry.
You can add a few drops of food coloring to the water if you want for colored crystals.
These crystals are really nice on the altar or to give as presents.Tristan Robinson
