 Smudge Sticks
It is fun to recycle your Yule greens and trees into smudge sticks for giving or using in the coming year.

You will need some cotton thread or embroidery floss and your old greenery.  I also like to tie a stone, a shell, or some "found" thing to each stick to make it a little more special.

Begin by taking your old greenery BEFORE it dries out completely.  Make a bundle about as long as your hand and 2-3 fingers thick.  Wrap one thin end heavily with your thread and then continue up the bundle to the other end.  Wrap 3 times around the "smudging" end and then come back down the bundle to your starting point.  This is when you can attach your ornaments if you like.

Let the stick dry out completely.  This usually takes up to a month or more.  Use in rituals or give as presents.
