Gaia's Garden

Even those of us on an Earth centered path can use a little help now and then in caring for our Mother.  This column is dedicated to making us more aware of the "footprints" we leave on Her and how to live more harmoniously with Her even if we're urban pagans.

Earth Day 2000

It's Earth Day again on April 22, so don't forget to Reduce, Reuse and Recycle.  If you live in a frigid climate, now is the time to pitch in and help clean up the litter that seems to bloom from under the snow melt even before the crocuses do!  Remember, one persons' trash is another persons' treasure....and you'd be surprised what you can find along the wayside!

On a more somber note, the news from the ozone this past winter is not good.  Seems that not only were the scientists able to measure a bigger hole at both poles, but during one of their stratospheric fly overs, they actually encountered a 2 mile wide cloud of pure chlorines which is a major factor in the destruction of the ozone layer.  So do think twice before servicing your car/house air conditioning this summer and if you refrigerator is elderly or goes on the blink, make sure you ask your service person to check for freon leaks.  The Earth and all her children will thank you!
