Buckley, Ella (Brindle)

The funeral of Mrs. Ella (Brindle) Buckely, wife of Jeremiah Buckley, who died Friday morning, was held from the family home, 100 primrose St., yesterday, with solemn high mass of requiem at St. James church at 8:30. The mass was celebrated by Rev. Gerald Dolan, assistend by Rev. Thomas 0'Toole, deacon, and Rev J. Aloysius O'Brien, sub deacon. Rev Maurice J. O'Connor, Framingham, was seated within the sanctuary. Miss Gertrude T. Carey sang two selections, "Requiem" and "Nearer My God to Thee". The funeral was largely attended and many were present from outside of Haverhill. The bearers were William J. Buckley, Raymond V. Murphy, Daniel F. Clochecy, Haber F. McKenna, Oscar Brindle and Daniel Sheehan. Burial was in St. James cemetery.

Man's Death Partly Blamed On Accident, jeremiah Buckley, 81 Dies - Investigation Is Reopened.

Haverhill police and the registry of motor Vehicles today reopened their investigation into an accident in which Jeremiah M. Buckley, age 81, 100 Primrose st., a pedestian, was injured on June 29 on Primrose st., near Stewart st.

Mr. Buckley died at the Arlington rest home, Summer st., yesterday, Medical Examiner Dr. John P. creed said the accident was partially responsible for his death. Dr. cread said death was due to arterioslerotic heart disease and multiple contusions and abrasions caused by the accident. he viewed the body shortly after Mr. Buckley died.

Police Chief William J. Collins and Hearings Officer John J. Foley of the registry of motor vehicles offic discussed the case after learning of Mr. Buckley's death and Foley's receipt of the medical examiner's report. They decided to reopen the case.

MR. BUCKLEY suffered a cut on his forehead when he was struck by an automobile operated by George Francis, age 28, 58 Sixteenth Ave.

Francis could not recall that his auto struck Mr. Buckley, and in his report to police, he said the elderly man told him he had not been by the auto. In his original report, Francis said he was driving south on Primrose st., near Stewart st., when Mr. Buckley suddenly loomed up in front of his auto. Francis said he swerved left adn applied the brakes, but found Mr. Buckley lying on the road near his right front fender. Francis said that Mr. Buckley told him he was not injured, but when Francis saw the blood on the victum's forehead he took him to the Hale hospital. mr. Buckley remained there until July 14, when he went to the rest home.

Chief Collins said today, "The investigation of the accident will be reopened in cooperation with the registry. "I am assigning Inspectors Calvin E. Long and Richard J. Sheehan to work with an inspector from the motor vehicle department. some question has arisen concerning this case." HEARINGS OFFICER, Foley said he has: assigned Inspector Fred T. Jones to the investigation. Haverhill has had no fatal automobile accidents since las November when two happend within 3 days.

MR. BUCKLEY WAS born in North Adams, son of the late james and Mary (Collins) Buckley, and had lived in Haverhill more than 60 years. he was the widower of Ella H. (Brindle) Buckley. Mr. Buckley was employed as a turn laster until his retirement about 20 years ago. He leaves three daughters, Mrs.

The funeral will be held Thursday morning at 8 from the Murphy and Curtin funeral home, 532 main st., followed by a requiem high mass at 9 in St. James church. Burial will be in St. James cemetery. Calling hours at the Funeral home will be from 7 to 10 tonight and from 2 to 5 and 7 to 10 p.m. tomorrow.
