BRINDLE, Herbert M. (1908-1954)
Police Officer Brindle Dies – On Force Since 1942; Was Navy Veteran
Herbert M. Brindle, 46, 127 Grove St., Haverhill Police officer and Navy Veteran of World War II, died last night at the Chelsea Soldiers' Home after a long illness.
Mr. Brindle was appointed a military substitute on the Police department on Nov. 7, 1942 and a regular reserve on July 27, 1943. He enlisted in the Navy in February, 1944, and was discharged in November of that year from the U.S. Naval hospital at Bainbridge, Md.
Following his discharge, he continued as a regular reserve and was appointed a regular patrolman on Jan. 28, 1947. His last assignment was covering the days off beats.
He was born in Haverhill, Jan. 7, 1908, son of Florence Girroir Brindle and the late George Brindle.
He was the father of Herbert Brindle Jr., Haverhill High School halfback who died in 1949 of injuries received while practicing for the annual Thanksgiving Day football game.
Besides his wife, Mary M. (Meehan) Brindle, he leaves two sons, Richard D. and Gerald Brindle, and a daughter, Karen Brindle; his mother, four brothers, Otis, New Jersey; Paul, New York; Richard, Haverhill, and George Brindle, Jr., Hartford, Conn.; six sisters, Mrs. Lillian Brindamour, Florida; Mrs Doris McGowan, Hartford, Conn., and Mrs. Antonetta Capo, Mrs. Alice Legare and Mrs. Irene Samoisette, Haverhill, and Mrs. Helen Pearson, Mobile, Ala.
The funeral will be held Friday morning at 9 from the S. D. Amice and Son Funeral Home, 7 Bartlett st., with requiem high mass at 10 in St. Joseph's Church. Burial will be in St. Joseph. Calling hours at the funeral home will be from 7 to 10, tonight and from 2 to 5 and 7 to 10 tomorrow.

MEHAN, Mary E. BRINDLE (1907-1990) Obit 29 January 1990, Monday Mary C. Brindle Worked at Liberty Shoe Co. SEABROOK BEACH, N.H. - Mary C. Brindle, 82, of 270 Portsmouth Ave., died Thrusday, at the Exeter Health Care Inc. She was the widow of Herbert M. Brindle who died in 1954. Mrs. Brindle was born March 7, 1907 in Haverhill Mass., daughter of Edward and Harriet (Spiller) Meehan. Raised in Haverhill, she attended local schools and worked many years as a payroll clerk for the former Liberty Shoe Co., of Haverhill, and for other shoe shops in the Merrimack Valley. She lived at Seabrook Beach for over 50 years after coming from Haverhill. Family members include two sons Richard D. Brindle and Gerald E. Brindle, both of Arundel, Maine; a daughter, Karen A. Francis, Plaistow; 13 grandchildren, 6 great-grandchildren; four brothers, James Meehan, Kingston, Joseph Meehan, Clinton, Ark, John Meehan, Anaheim, Calif., and Richard Meehan, Florida; a sister Ruth Gillick, Anaheim; and many neices and nephews. A memorial Mass will be celebrated in St. Joseph Church in Haverhill at a later date. Private burial will be in St. Joseph Cemetery. Arrangements are by teh Ronald A. Remick Funeral Home, Hampton.
