PLUNKY

PLUNKY

J. Plunky Branch is a world class saxophonist and a fantastic musician who is extremely versatile, performing jazz, R&B, African, funky dance music, reggae and rap. Plunky is equally dynamic and entertaining in concert, festivals, night clubs and in schools and colleges for concert-lectures and workshops. He is available for engagements with his seven piece group, Plunky & Oneness, with his J. Plunky Branch Quartet and as a soloist.

Plunky is an outstanding performer, band leader, composer, record producer and lecturer. He has toured extensively, making concert and club appearances in Washington, DC, New York, Philadelphia, Boston, Atlanta, San Francisco, throughout the Southeast and in Ghana and Nigeria, West Africa. Plunky has opened shows for some of the biggest names in black music, including Ray Charles, Patti LaBelle, the Pointer Sisters, Frankie Beverly & Maze, the Isley Brothers, Najee and Dexter Gordon. His sax work was featured in the scene setting music of "The Cosby Show" and his groups have been featured at the Hampton Jazz Festival the National Black Arts Festival in Atlanta and the New Orleans Worlds Fair.

Plunky is a two time recipient of Jazz Fellowships from the National Endowment for the Arts and he has received tour support from the Virginia Commission for the Arts and the Mid-Atlantic Arts Foundation. He has lectured at numerous schools, colleges, universities and other institutions on a wide range of music related topics.

Plunky & Oneness perform an impressive mixture of the entire spectrum of African-American music: from funky pop & hip-hop to avante-garde new music; from traditional African to contemporary jazz. In his performances, Plunky features many of his own original compositions, jazz standards, as well as hit songs popularized by such stars as Luther Vandross, Janet Jackson, Heavy D, Puff Daddy, Digable Planets and Arrested Development.

Plunky's concerts and lectures-seminars involve and enthrall audiences of all ages and have drawn rave reviews from music lovers, critics, and educators alike.

Fees to presenters range from $1,500 - $4,000, depending on number of performers, technical requirements, tour routing, block bookings, etc. Presenter must provide stage, sound and lighting systems and accommodations.
