First and last pages from a
1983 microfiche catalog
Excerpts from one of the last publications on paper by
JOHN ZUBE
(Libertarian Microfiche Publishing),
proud to outproduce and outpublish anybody alive or dead.
I guess he pretty much managed just that on a per capita basis.
His production is up to (peace plan)-issue number 1500-something or so and they are still only a buck a piece of peace and include a lot of uncategorizable and all too singularly brilliant utopians, panarchists and couleur locale social reformers.

I am happy to have finally scanned and can present the cream of John's crop:
some preWW2 documents on the ever troublesome Currency issues: see for instance a file with more, in his turn, publisher recommendations by Zube's mentor and inspiration Ulrich von Beckerath
see for instance: Beckerath on Edgar Milhaud
(after years and years of believing I would see other people, much better suited and attired to stand a chance at surviving an onslaught of people yelling: 'you can't update that, it is moldy and stupid old hat'!, do so); for my efforts at doing it in close collaboration with John himself see the pretty useless reasons why it didn't work in my file called: heavy heaves.......

==========
********** M I C R O F I C H E  F O R  Y O U ==========
Much larger freedom of press information opportunities exist for you than you think: via microfiche publishing and reading. Using this modern & affordable technology ( via a service bureau ), you too, could afford to publish, every year: dozens of books, magazines or newsletters (even if, initially, you had to give them away, e.g. to libraries- they are cheap enough to do that ) & to buy and read, if you wanted to, hundreds. Micrographics is already and will remain intermarried with computer technology. If e.g. a small fraction of today's libertarians contributed likewise, then the whole case for liberty, peace end justice, could be easily end cheaply made accessible, in a few years, end it could be made unbeatablet Libertarian Microfiche Publishing has set an example & offers advice: Since 1978(in its PEACE PLANS series, Nos.1-426), with a shoestring budget end using only one manpower, part-time, ca. 500 freedem-, peace & justice titles were produced (old or new, otherwise rare, not obtainable or expensive),on diazo microfiche (lOxl5cm film cards, with 98-600pp ea.,at 24-42x reduction: S1 ea.),readable with cheap reading machines (from S 50, 2nd. hand),ranging from limited government to anarchism. The other micropub l is hers of fer hun dreds more of such titles between theml Send 02 for introductory booklet, leaflets & sample.

"396,397" indicate that 2 Peace Plans issues are involved, i.e., 2 microfiche. Price thus: $ 2.00.

large mixed orders are negotiable!
We do not care for how much you resell our fiche.

But LMP hopes to be able to maintain the current prices for 2-3 years. ~ Prepayment is required, in cash, cheque or money or= ders. US-cheaues are acceDted. (Uncovered ones will be filmed:if not rapidly replaced by the eender!) ALL CHEQUES & MONEY ORDERS ARE TO BE MADE QUT TQ JOHN ZUBE! (This is still only a hobby-"business"!) Ordering  "Peace Plans"  could suffice, but to reduce errors, mention a title catchword, too.

A listing according to Peace Plans numbers, a subject listing end at least a beginning of an index for the whole series will follow, some time in the future. If I were to get 100 orders for the whole set, p.a., I could speed all my time on this project. But numerous smaller orders would be welcomed, too!

 Good fiching! John Zube,6/8/83. LMP - 4 - August 1983

I believe that many of the friends of cooperatives are economically on the wrong track (with their exaggerated egalitarianism & majoritarianism). But by far not all! Many would maximize individual responsibility, initiative and property right send decision making, thus abolishing the distinction between "capitalistic" and "socialistic" enterprises. LMP intends to offer many more titles on this subject. Filmable material is welcomed! I want at least my grandchildren (none as yet) to have a chance to work in an ideal productive cooperative! NOTES ON COPYRIGHTS

LMP does not claim copyrights for its own original material, especially not for that written by Ulrich von Beckerath and John Zube. Reprints are free and desired. Likewise, inclusion in databanks and any other form of reproduction. Mentioning of the source would be appreciated as well as a copy of the reproduction.
But LMP has no authority to re lease pre-exist ing and claimed copyrights. It often gets reproduction permission for still legally protected material only under condition that it would reproduce it only on microfilm end only on a temporary end at any time revocable basis.
LMP does not desire exclusive copyrights for any material.
LMP tries to concentrate on material that either is no longer copyrighted or for which no copyrights are claimed, or that is released to it for its microfiche issues on a temporary end revocable basis only.
Upon revocation we would not get any further duplicates reproduced and would have only at most 100 at hand. (The remainder we would still want to be able to sell.) We would also be willing to hand over the master fiche upon request, when a temporary permission is withdrawn.
LMP has still much to learn about copyrights and does in no way want to infringe them to anyone's financial disadvantage end our advantage. We have, in ignorance, infringed some copyrights, e.g. for long out-of-print writings published in the UK for which copyrights were not expressly claimed. (It is legally presumed to exist, even when it is not expressly claimed, as we found out later.)
We have also reproduced some material that, although formally still under copyrights, has not been reproduced for decades or is not likely to be reproduced again in the neer future. For these cases we apologize to those who feel offended, teut we do so with a good conscience. We will continue to offer such titles as a public service until the copyrights owners (which are usually hard to find for us ) do seriously protest and tell us to stop.
But those protesting and objecting should consider that LMP is so far still only a pioneering enterprise and that so far it has no profits but only losses to share with others! Moreover, we would be glad if they took over the micropublishing of contested titles themselves and distributed them successfully. LMP attempts to give them that chance, by attempting to open the household market for micrographics, beginning with households pursuing a special interest like libertarianism. As soon as the household market is opened up for microfiche reading end publishing, end almost everybody made use of these opportunities, LMP would only be too happy to microfiche only its own titles.

LMP IS WILLING TO PAY IN FORM OF MICROFICHE (the only means of pay~rent that it is welf supplied with ) for submissions to its series.
Submissions could be donations of originals or loens of them ( which we would photocopy ourselves ) or could consist in very good photocopies (usable directly for filming, without extensive re-copying end handcorrecting etc ), provided only that there are no copyrights obstacles for our microfiche issues end that the material fits under one of the many themes in our collection.

For each submission of film ready material that would fill one of our microfiche, we offer in return 50 microfiche, either of that issue or of any of our other issues, according to your choice. Thus you would be, with a minimum of effort, already half-way into micropublishing yourself, while you could build up your own microfiche library.

LMP IS PARTICULARLY INTERESTED IN REPROWCING LIBERTARLAN MANUSCRIPTS THAT SO FAR COULD NOT FIND A PUBLISHER. By all means, try to get them into print first end try out the new agency mentioned in a 3/83 "Frontlines" advertisement: "Save irreplaceable time and money marketing your manuscript or publication. Limited select clientele. Not a vanity publisher.Write to The Professional Edge, Drawer 668, San Rafael,CA 94 915." Then, if you should fair, remember: fiche!

SOME FAVORABLE RESPONSES TO LMP

The list of titles you have sed for microfiche more than impressive. If you continue, it may turn t that you have developed a definitive collection. I am somewhat awed by your persistence end the discrimination shown in choices made."          Robert LeFevre, July 17,1980.

You have done a magnificent job of getting same important books onto microfiche. Congratulations! I'm still old-fashioned enough to like to have the feel of the real book in my hands while I reed ft, teut with the cost of publishing going up end the unavailability of many important titles you offer an excellent opportunity."         Edmund A. Opitz of FEE, July 6,81.

I am very happy to learn of the existence of the Libertarian Microfiche Publishing. It should prove extremely useful in making a large nurrber of important libertarian works available that would not be otherwise. Now, as for my Free Man's Library. It has been out of

print for a long time I shortly shall be arran-

ging to get it reproduced in microfilm by University
 Microfilms (P.0.8OX 1346, Ann Arbor, Michigan 48106).
Once more, let me wish the greatest success to the microfiche enterprise.          Henry Hazlitt, May 22,1981.

~I do encourage you to keep on doing what you are doing. In the world of libertarian publishing you are pretty much alone. Only Liberty Press/Liberty Classics, with their excellent reprints of classics, can compare with your activities. Have you seen their latest catalogue? They have just begun reprinting the complete Glasgow edition of the works of Adam Smith for $ 5.50 a volume! The other major publisher of interest is the Philosophia Verlag, Widemeyerstrasse 34, 8000 Muenchen 22. They have begun the International Carl Menger Library and have already reprinted Mises' Die Gemeinwirtschaft and Nationaloekonomie. But they are so expensive. Your microfiching project certainly gives value for money. The last really good libertárian publisher was Free Life Editions in New York. I know Chuck Hamilton and he is a great person teut couldn't contir,ue in the face of disinterest end apathy in the libertarian community. We need to revive some kind of publishing finn to get old end new libertarian works into the hands of the thinking public."                David Hart, 15th. Septerber,1982.
