Inspired by a recent mention of "horrible remakes," here's Poet X of PDX: 

"Some of them might be horrible, but remakes (covers) of songs have always been interesting to me. It's fun to inform others that on 'Meet the Beatles' was a song, 'Till There Was You,' from 'The Music Man' by Meredith Willson.

"On cassette tapes, I've recorded most double-or-more-versions songs from my CD collection back to back for some interesting juxtapositions. An abbreviated list:

"Janis Joplin and Roger Miller doing 'Me and Bobby McGee.'

"Aretha Franklin and Johnny Cash doing 'Bridge Over Troubled Water' (yes, I've got a version of Simon and Garfunkel doing it live to go along with the others).

"Aretha Franklin and the Band doing 'their' signature song, 'The Weight.'

"Glenn Miller and Orchestra and Etta James doing 'At Last.'

"Bobby Darin and Ray Charles doing 'Eleanor Rigby.'

"Trisha Yearwood and Art Garfunkel doing 'I Have a Love' (from 'West Side Story'; of course, there's the original soundtrack version to add to these).

"Simply Red and Aretha Franklin doing 'Angel.'

"Bette Midler and Judy Garland doing 'Come Rain or Come Shine.'

"Bob Marley and Annie Lennox doing 'Waiting in Vain.'

"Queen and Eric Von Schmidt doing 'God Save the Queen'/'My Country Tis of Thee.'

"Roy Orbison and Don McLean doing 'Crying.' (I really need to get kd lang's version to add to these.)

"And so many more. Horrible remakes! Where would my CD collection be without them?"
