This double 7 inch release from Swedens’ A-Bombs and Turpentines has each band submitting a single track backed with two live songs. The A-Bombs are yet another A-grade Swedish punk rock band that aren’t unlike the Hellacopters. However, their track, Satisfaction Got No Friend is a bit of a disappointment. There’s nothing wrong with the song itself except to my ears the sound is a bit to slick and riff orientated although there are some ripping guitar solos. The band would have been better off going for a rawer, more garage and rock ‘n’ roll feel. The flipside contains two live songs, Bitch and the excellent Monstermind, which prove that the A-Bombs can pull it off live.
Judging by their track, “Waiting For Anything”, the Turpentines aren’t quite in the same league as the A-bombs, although the song is still pretty good. The sound is a bit more lo-fi and trashy but thankfully the band know how to play their instruments, something many bands with a similar sound don’t. However, the two live tracks are a bit of a disappointment; competent but nothing amazing.
