The Sewergrooves are probably best known as being the other band for Hellacopter's drummer
, Robert. However, the two bands have less in common than you might initially imagine. The
Sewergrooves are more punk and less rock and have a much more nosier and grungier sound,
similar to bands like Mudhoney and the Wipers. Three Time Losers is a compilation of
their previous three 7 inches that were originally only released in Scandinavia. This type
of music just doesn't appeal to me no matter how hard I try to get into it, which is sad
because the songs are quite good and the vocals of lead singer Kurt are strangely
appealing. The major problem I have with the Sewergrooves sound is the shitty guitar sound
, which lacks any power. Only on the track, Two Times Loser does the band approach
something exceptional courtesy of some fine guitar from Andrew Shit. All in all, Three
Time Losers is a frustrating record because although the band has a lot of potential, it's
as if they're deliberately trying to sound shitty.

Released: | 2002 |
Highlights: | Wish You Were Mine
I'm In Love

Long Way To Your Heart |
Rating: | 7.5/10

The Stoneage Hearts are a side project for members of The Finkers, Hands Of Time and P76,
that finds them combining garage rock with classic power pop in an infectious combination
that will have your feet tapping and your hips shaking in next to no time. The production
(on a four track Yeah!) really suits the songs as everything's left really raw and
spontaneous while still remaining powerful - check out the Who-like ending to Two Timin'
Gurl for proof. They also throw in some cool covers by The Zippers and The Beat as well
as the standard Stranded On A Dateless Night. If you're a fan of classic Australian
garage-rock (ie early Hoodoo Gurus, Stems, Lime Spiders or Early Hours) then make sure
you tune in to The Stoneage Hearts.
Title: | Motherfuckers From The Bowels Of Hell |
Band: | Strutter |
Label: | Safety Pin Records |
Released: | 1998 |
Highlights: | Nancy's Boots
Don't Give A Fuck
Gimme Some Coke
Hot Rocks |
Rating: | 7.5/10
|
Brisbane band Strutter play fucked-up in the gutter rock 'n' roll and are no doubt
inspired by the likes of The New York Dolls and Iggy & The Stooges. Fans of bands like
The New Bomb Turks and Zeke will find a lot to like here as the band rip through such
classics as Nancy's Boots, Don't Give A Fuck and Gimmie Some Coke and finish with an
appropriately chaotic version of The Stooges Open Up And Bleed. My only criticism is that
lead singer Dick needs to work on his singing if Strutter want to take their music to the
next level in order to match it with the best. However, with Satan filling in on drums,
it shouldn't take Strutter long to conquer the world!
