Fun Things EP - The Fun Things

Label:Penniman Records
Re-released:2000
Tracks:When The Birdman Fly
Lipsick
(I Ain't Got) Time Enough For Love
Savage
Rating:5/5

The Fun Things one and only EP was released way back in 1980 and limited to only 500 copies. It has since become one the most sought after singles ever released in Australia, partially due to the presence of future Hoodoo Guru Brad Shepherd but also to the loud and untamed music. Now some twenty years later, it finally officially available again thanks to the small Spanish label, Penniman Records.

The Fun Things were a bunch of teenagers making loud, raw music that is commonly referred to as punk. They sound strongly influenced by bands like The Stooges, New York Dolls, MC5 and especially Radio Birdman, something that is quite remarkable for a bunch of teenagers living in Queensland at that time. (Obviously the Saints made quite an impact). The music itself bares strong resemblance to the band’s influences but stands up in its own right, especially Savage which sounds as fresh today as it would have 20 years ago. Sure the sound is basic at best but for a bunch of green teenagers from the arse end of the world, it ain’t bad at all!
