Melbourne band, The Pictures, are probably better known as the ‘other’ band for You Am I guitarist David Lane. You’ll See is not only their debut single but also the first release for new Australian label Illustrious Artists. The Pictures no doubt have a strong appreciation of British garage/beat music and as such they remind me a lot of contemporary bands like The Insomniacs and Embrooks. The A side is a great melodic 60’s styled pop song while the B-side sees the band doing their best Who-styled freakout. My only criticism is that the recording could have had a bit more punch, especially on the drums but for their first release, it’s pretty impressive and hopefully a precursor of better things to come.
