Pop On Top #12 April 2001


You Am I's fifth album, Dress Me Slowly, will be released in Australia on April 30th. The first 10,000 copies will come with a bonus disc entitled The Temperance Union, which contains 8 previously unreleased demo tracks. There will also be a very limited 12" vinyl release. In conjunction with the album's release, the band will be undertaking a national tour. The dates can be found at the The official You Am I webpage

Kim Salmon recently reformed The Scientists (2nd lineup)to perform live on the Australian television program, Studio 22. According to Craig Regan, their set consisted of songs taken from the Blood Red River era and there is the posibility of further shows.

The Celibate Rifles are now without their rhythm section of the last ten years after the shock departure of bassist Jim Leone and drummer Nic Reith. According to the band's mailing list, the split was not acriminious and there are no hard feelings between the different members. There is no word yet on their replacements but I guess we'll find out tomorrow (19th April) , when the band perform on Studio 22 (unless they keep the old lineup for one more gig)

Legendary Sydney band, The Lipstick Killers, will be playing a one-off reunion show on May 11th as a benefit for the band's drummer Dave Taylor, who was left permantly handicapped after a serious car accident in 1999. The band will have CDs and possibly T-shirts and posters for sale at the show. Their first 7 inch, Hindu Gods Of Love b/w Shakedown USA, which was produced by Deniz Tek and released through Voxx Records in 1980, is considered an Australian classic.

Michael Carpenter has released his third album, S.O.O.P #1 (Songs Of Other People), which as the name suggests, is an all-covers album featuring songs by such artists as Tom Petty, The Zombies, The Beatles, The Beach Boys, The Monkees, Bob Dylan and Bruce Springsteen. Limited to 500 copies it can only be ordered over the internet. More details at Michael Carpenter's webpage.
