Dom Mariani has just arrived back from DM3's final ever concert tour through Europe. Having just gotten over a nasty bout of jet lag, here's what he had to say;
The tour was a great success. It's a strange feeling when you're there, the band has a sense of purpose and you feel like it could of gone on forever but you know that when you get back to Perth it's back into the doldrums. Spain was definitely the best leg of the tour. France had its moments too and the only show we played in Germany was on a Tuesday night so there wasn't much of a crowd. My fave shows were Lille-Cafe Oz (small venue , packed, crappy PA but rockin), Annecy-Le Brise Glace (This place was like a dream, beautiful, new state of the art concert venue with seating half way up the room. DM3 in concert mode to 500+punters), Neuvic (another small, packed ,sweaty, rockin gig). Alicante-Camelot Club (a club in the south of Spain build like a Castle, very cheezy, very hot, very late.
Our first show in Spain - crazy crowd, rockin' and a sign of things to come. The new guys were in shock) Madrid-Moby Dick(One of our best shows ever), Salamanca-The Irish Rover (Totally packed and we played real well, we're on a roll) Bilbao-Bilborock (Another great venue, an old church converted into a concert venue and another best ever show). The last show in Castellon was sardinesville but we didn't play a wild one that night. The venue was tiny and the stage the size of a postage stamp and with the amount of punters they squeezed in, there was no room to move. The audience were literally in your face. The band played real well, It was like we stepped up a 100 fold in the performance. A totally different band. We had a lot fun as always and it was a high note indeed to end on.
All I can say is thanks for the songs. I feel privileged to have had the chance to see the band on a regular occasion over the last couple of years. The Perth music scene is a lot poorer in their absence.
In other news, guitarist Mark Wilkinson has left The New Christs.
Melbourne's rockin' Stunt Car Drivers, who have been around for the last 2-3 years have a Split EP (with Concorde) out called Let the Ride Begin on Elastic (an off-shoot of Rubber Records) thru BMG. Both bands contribute 3 songs each, with the Stunt Car Drivers' being Scream, Neighbourhood Queen, & Frankenstein Girl. They will also have a 7" out very soon on new Melbourne label Full Toss Records. The A-Side will be Science Fiction Mind and the B-Side being Like Your Style. Also In the next two weeks the band will be recording the Redd Kross song Follow the Leader for a tribute album organised by the Papaya Scruffs Redd Kross Website. Other than that, the band have been playing around Melbourne recently (supporting You Am I I believe) and have been working on songs for an upcoming album.
