This CD is split release between two Melbourne Bands, Concorde and The Stuntcar Drivers, who both contribute 3 songs. I’m not sure if there is any connection between the bands, although I suspect that some members of both bands are related.
Concorde play guitar driven British pop music, similar to Even’s earlier work but without the same level of pop smarts. It is perhaps somewhat indicative that their most memorable song is a cover of Paul McCartney’s Rock Show. In other words, good but nothing brilliant.
In contrast, The Stuntcar Drivers blast Concorde out of the sky with their energetic brand of take-no-prisoners rock and roll. Sounding strong influenced by The New York Dolls, Radio Birdman and The Hellacopters, this recording is a huge improvement on their previous release, the Science Fiction Mind 7 Inch. Of their 3 songs, the 5 minute finale Frankenstein Girl is an absolute killer.
