The Chevelles’ latest EP, Sunbleached, contains the first new material from the band in over 4 years. It is slightly more produced than previous releases, with a strong emphasis on harmony vocals and loud guitars. All four originals (plus their power pop cover of Air Supply’s Lost In Love) are consistently strong and it is impossible to pick out a standout track. As per previous releases, the two songwriters of the group, Duane Smith and Adrian Allen, complement each other well and the addition of new drummer Dave Shaw (whose name should be familiar to anyone familiar with The Chevelles’ history) has them playing together as a really tight outfit. All of this means that Sunbleached is The Chevelles at their classic best and is easily as good as anything they’ve previously released. This of course, bodes well for their next album, which is due early next year.
