P76 are an experienced Melbourne pop trio who were formed in 1998 by Danny McDonald, formerly of the bands, Jericho and Oscarlima. Any band that lists DM3 and You Am I among their main influences is going to attract my attention and Sunliner, their second EP, is a strong improvement on their debut EP, Life In General. Not only do they benefit from a fuller guitar sound but also from a more unashamedly power pop approach, as best demonstrated on the opening track Headed Straight For The Sun, which is just the song to get rid of those winter blues. Previously, one could have accused P76 as being yet another ‘indie’ pop band but with the release of Sunliner they have moved ahead of the pack and with an album on the way, look set to stay there.
