The Upsets are what you could practically call a Sydney supergroup featuring Martin Martini (ex-The Trilobites, Spurs For Jesus) along with Tony Harper (ex-New Christs) and Phil Jacquet (ex-Celibate Rifles). Their self-titled EP features 4 songs of clean, well-produced Australian power pop, which honesty is disappointing considering the calibre of the players. This I feel is largely due to the somewhat lacklustre arrangements; there are too many stop-start progressions, which prevents the band from really taking off. On a positive side, the production is excellent. I have a suspicion that The Upsets are a totally different prospect live because on record they come across as being too cautious.
