The rules listed here are to provide you with the most basic knowledge of Tenarian Standard. They were not accepted as the norm criticize, but only to help you become a better role player, if that, in fact, is what you wish to become. The explanations will be kept short and simple so that this can be a quickstudy. Remember, these are merely the standards that have been accepted. These few suggestions have nothing to do with your general style of RP.

There isn't much respect given to individuals with numbers in their name, for example: VampChic_666 or GothBoy99. People with these names usually get ignored or they don't get taken seriously. If you have a name like this, may we suggest changing it? Try not to steal your name from a popular game, book, movie, or anime. There are plenty of Buffy_Chick's out there. Why would you want to be another one? Even if you play a vampire, it's better to NOT have the word vampire in your name. We played a warped version of V: TM and we want to try to uphold the Masquerade.

Examples:
Vampire_John_Allen No
Anna_Smith Yes
Buffy_Vamp_Slayer_45 No

This is the most important aspect of the game. The colon ( : ). It looks like this : It is very easy to type. Just hold down your shift button and hit the semi colon button and it appears. : See? We use the colon when showing actions. When you type it will look something like this:

John_the_Slayer:jumps up and down.

All of your actions have to look like this. No exceptions. When you get to play with the big guys they won't accept any of your moves if they aren't in colon form. These are not acceptable:

John_the_Slayer **jumps up and down**
John_the_Slayer ((jumps up and down))
John_the_Slayer "jumps up and down"

It has to be..... John_the_Slayer:jumps up and down

Something that irritates a lot of players is cyber sex in the Tavern. This isn't a definite rule, but perhaps you should think about your sexual actions when you are in plain sight of everyone.

It isn't saying that cyber sex is bad, but would have sex in front of everyone in a grocery store? Even if you do play a character that is a little loose in the moral end, maybe it would be more appropriate to take it to another room and then rejoin the Vampire Tavern when you've let out your exhibitions.

Currently, in Tenaria there aren't any legally Immortal character. There are no Gods, no Goddesses, no nothing of that nature. To create one would render it illegal. Even if you are a Vampire, or a powerful Mage, you are still not Immortal. All characters can be killed. Perhaps there are some characters that are powerful, but even those can die. Please do not try and offer up a dozen and one excuses as to why your character is Immortal. There are no LEGAL excuses, thus no LEGALLY Immortal characters. You would do well to remember this in the line of battle.

T1 is a form of fighting. It is a turn based style that contains a lot of flavour. This is good for players that can not type fast and like to show off when they role play. You have all the time in the world to respond to an attack; however, it is GREATLY APPRECIATED if you didn't take too long. An example of a T1 attack is:

John_the_Slayer:stands slowly from his chair causing it to creak slightly. With a casual motion he flips his hair over his shoulder clearing his view of his enemy, Bob_the_Mean_Ogre. He reaches down to the hilt of his dagger and with a flurry of motion he hurls it for Bob's head sending it flying through the air swiftly.

See how exciting that is to read? Of course when you first start out it won't be like that, but practice makes perfect.

T2 is also a form fighting, but instead of turn based it is speed based. This is good for players who can type extremely fast and don't have a lot of imagination. In T2 fighting, you have to be able to type your response before your opponent gets in his. It can get confusing but in some cases, T2 is the preferred fighting method. A very watered down example of a T2 attack would be:

John_the_Slayer:jumps up quickly
John_the_Slayer:throws his dagger for Bob's head
John_the_Slayer:smirks as his dagger sinks into Bob's head
John_the_Slayer:cackles madly because Bob is now dead.

This is an extremely vague example and doesn't incorporate all the fighting rules of Tenaria. I put it like this because the rules are ever changing, but these few rules here, the general rules, will never change no matter who is in charge of Tenaria.

Another form of fighting design to simplify the often lengthy and tiresome Type One mode of fighting. In many ways they are the same in basic rules, for example, Type Logistics is also turned based and you may not declare the hits on your opponent. Where it differs from Type One is that there are no preps required for spells, you simply do your action. You must make defensive move within two phrases after opponent's attack or the hit is declared automatically. There will be example of a TL attack at another point. Also, we will try to get complete examples of fighting for all the different fighting styles.

.

This is yet another form of fighting which is common in Tenaria. Type Superior is a speed based fighting system. One line of prep is required before declaring minor damage on your opponent. There are two lines of prep required before declairing a medium amount of damage. Lastly, there is three lines of prep required before declaring fatal or severe damage on your opponent. For each line, be it minor, medium, or severe damage, there is a nine word flavour requirement. Meaning that your line of attack must be nine words long. We would also appreciate it if you didn't use filler words such as "like a blur..." "easily.." "n shit.." "n whatnot.." "or some shit..." This degrades the game and makes a fool of your opponent who is taking the time to fight you fairly and you are only doing half the requirements. There is currently no example for Type S.

The ignore button is one of the better inventions to the Yahoo Chat program, but oftentimes people tend to abuse it. You can ignore the spammers, and people who are OOC. But it is never wise to ignore someone simply because you don't like them, or what they have to say. If you both are IC, then all bets are off. If you ignore that person and he attacks you: You will die because you are obviously not able to respond if you can't see what's going on. Have a care who you ignore because it can backfire.

At present, Tenaria is a sort of medieval fantasy world. There are only certain forms of Technology allowed. You will see people using light bulbs and lighters, odd things that of course were not invented in the Dark Ages. These types of things are quite acceptable, but guns and cars are not allowed in Tenaria. If you wish to RP with such things, you might want to check out Ayenee. They allow Technology in their game

It is quite obvious that with almost 50 people in the Vampire Tavern during its peak usage that it will be difficult to understand what's going on what with the hideous scroll and spamming. But what contributes to the problem is people who make bad decisions concerning their fonts:
It would help if you did not write in bright colours
IT WOULD ALSO HELP IF YOU DID NOT WRITE IN ALL CAPS.
Isn't bold underlined italicised writing hard to read now? Imagine it at 20 scrolls per second.
Pick a nice solid colour and then either bold, italicse, OR underline it. But never all three at once.

These are the most basic rules. None of these rules or suggestions were set to infringe on your individuality and creativity. Even if you follow another rule again, it is best if you followed these few. Now there are plenty of rules out there that are debateable, but it isn't our business to get into the many rules that are ever changing day by day in Tenaria. If you want to keep updated on what's going on, we suggest you bookmark the page and come back often. We will try to keep current rule information here. By rule information, we of course mean all those rules that keep changing like the current fighting style and what magics are allowed. But if you can handle these few, than you can take on anything. Happy Role Playing.
