Pager/etc. (if applicable): ICQ #: 35656392 Character Information --------------------- -Name: Faneo 'Fan' Witters -Age: 21 -Sex: Male -Occupation(s): Lieutenant of the Thames, second in command to his sister, Cap'n Ave. -Substitutes which Xenogears Character? (if applicable): The Cap'n of the Thames Pt. II -Birthdate: Sept 22, V-477 -Height: 6 feet, 3 inches -Weight: 148 pounds -Eyes (colour and shape): Fan's eyes have more of an almond cast than his sister's. They are a grey-blue mixture, and are usually kept half-lidded. -Build: Fan keeps to the same slender frame as his sister, but is a good deal more fragile than she. His concession to health is to keep a 'swimmer's build'--lean and long--but he still appears as if he will snap in a strong wind. There is the sense that you could take apart his fingers like breadsticks by tightening your grip. -Complexion: Fan avoids the translucent pale of the hardcore nocturnal by occasionally spending time on the deck, but he is still a ghost when compared to other members of the crew. He keeps his skin tone light from the many hours spent working in the guts of the Thames. This trait, when paired with his face and build, gives him the impression of being something soft and gentle. -Facial Features: Fan's cheekbones are prominent and high, and his face is mask-like in its resistance to show strong emotion. His nose and lips are thin and precise. Some sailors have joked--not without a good basis--that he is more feminine than his sister. -Identifying Marks: Fan has a large, ropy scar that begins on the front of his left shin and reaches around to knot his left calf. He walks with a faint limp. -Hair (colour and style): Fan's hair has not been changed by the sun, but is still dark brown. It is wispy and fine, and Fan keeps it tidy and cut at the shoulders. He has a luck braid like his sister, and it reaches to his shoulder. See 'other notes' for details. -Voice: Fan's tone is invariably even. He dislikes raising his voice, and will resort to cutting replies as a method of getting his point across. Fan's voice is not a completely characterless monotone, but a rich tenor that might be wonderful if ever coaxed to expression. -Dress/Attire: Much like his sister, Fan styles his clothing after his job; continually running the chance of being submerged during some part of his day, he tends towards form-fitting shirts, wet suits, and mesh fabrics. Long hair and billowy clothing can be frustrating underwater, even lethal. His choices of shoes are sandals and boots with thick rubber soles, secured by straps that can be easily freed in an emergency. Since Fan has a jagged scar on his left leg, he prefers long pants or high boots--never simple shorts. Over the entire array, Faneo has added a long fine mesh vest, that pauses at his waist before drooping long tails down to the backs of his knees. -Jewelry (if any): Fan's only jewelry are the small beads interwoven into his luck braid. -Weapons/Tools (if any): Around his neck, Fan has a set of demigoggles which double as measuring scopes. Fan's weapons of choice are his words, although if pressed, he will retreat back behind his workers to give himself time to gauge the enemy. If forced into hand-to-hand combat, he will use the thin fishing harpoons stowed around the Thames, but he is a poor fighter. He will easily use a Gear against an ungeared opponent with little remorse. -Armour (if any): Fan's mesh vest provides limited protection from sharp shells and fragments of coral reefs, but nothing beyond that functionality. His mesh gloves do the same, but he only takes them on dives. -Personality: Although younger than his sister by 4 years, he behaves as her elder in demeanor. Fan is the grounding voice of reason for Avrial, often thought to be cruel in his indifference. He is the one who goes over the fine print while Ave is off chortling and ordering another round; his are the cold eyes met when visitors are exchanging mocking glances at his sister's behavior. While Fan is a lurker type, he has the respect and loyalty of his small personal team, who specialize in the deep sea excavations-- and who appreciate his calm and measured tones as he dispassionately reads off measurements to submerged workers. Fan as a leader differs from his sister in a number of ways, not the least of which is his view towards the hierarchy of the chain of command. For all his disdain for other people, Fan does believe in delegating work to other people, knowing that they are perfectly capable of performing their duties without their hands being held. Fan oversees the financial aspects of dealings for the Thames, but has no connections with any agencies outside of the ship. He backs his sister on the policy of neutrality, knowing just how vulnerable the largely unarmed floating city can be. -Background and History: Faneo's life centers around the Thames. Bred, born, and raised on the ocean, he has never taken an extended vacation away from its decks. Fan grew up knowing that he and his sister were links in the ongoing legacy of captains of the Thames, and assumed his role as lieutenant with little comment. Although he has taken the time to visit and study the lands and people that he encounters, he has always remained on or near his floating home. -Birthplace: Fan was born on the Thames. -Mother: Fan has the same mother as Ave, Devrin Delta. -Father: Fan has the same father as Ave. -Siblings: Fan's only living blood relation is Avrial. -Mate: Fan has no mate, nor has he ever, in anyone's memory, expressed a preference for one. -Children: None. -Other relations: While he does share a room with his sister, he does not indulge in incest... so enough of that line of speculation. It's unknown if the man has any interest in relationships whatsoever. This worries Ave, who has enough to spare. -Affiliation: The Thames. -Secondary Skills: Faneo is familiar with balancing the variety of funds and daily needs of his ship. While he is not as good a general mechanic as his sister, he still knows the basics of rudimentary machinery. Instead, Faneo has spent the bulk of his time learning about sonar and other aspects of the ocean. -Abilities/Disabilities (in addition to Ether): Fan's only Ether ability is his ability to calm his opponents by speaking to them in a pacifying voice. Ave has nicknamed it the 'voice of reason'. Fan has a good deal of Ether potential, but has neither the opportunity nor the inclination to train it. He is loyal and invaluable to his crew and his sister, and will not casually leave his informal family on the Thames. As cruel as he is with others, Fan is far less forgiving with himself. Faneo has minor schizophrenia--the actual disorder, not the oft-misnamed MPD/DID. Every now and then he has his 'bad moments', which his sister is used to covering up. This and his frequent nightmares have rendered him unfit for full command of the Thames. His personal crew is also aware of his lapses and can work around him--even physically restraining him with little comment when he needs it--but Fan still feels ashamed for his failings, and will work himself harder to try and make up for his disability. His sister has stamped down hard on sailors who have joked about the 'lieutenant's padded room', and it's become the unspoken--yet known--secret on the Thames. Many sailors pity Fan, which doesn't help. Whenever travelers pass through, Faneo discreetly inquires after possible cures, but fatalistically acknowledges that he may be doomed to a slow mental failure. -Hobbies: Fan enjoys swimming, and occasionally joins his sister on the deck to wander through the canopies and tents. Otherwise--when not working with or watching the crews--he spends time reading in solitude. Aware of the depths of his ignorance, Fan reads anything and everything indiscriminately in an attempt to address it. -Current residence: Fan lives on the Thames, the location of which varies. -Current Life Conflicts: Although he is only lieutenant, it is assumed that whenever he speaks, his order is to be listened to, even if it countermands Ave's orders. This is allowed and acknowledged by Avrial herself, who knows that her brother will think a situation through much more carefully than she will. Fan rarely exercises this privilege, only doing so when it is obvious that Ave is choosing a terribly destructive or flippant course. The siblings rarely come to arguments over this--Fan will inevitably speak to his sister himself, rather than undermine her authority by speaking to the crew alone. The siblings are very close. Having lived on the Thames for the entirety of their lives, they have made it the center of their existences. Each can cover for the other's weaknesses. They share the quarters of their late father--Ave by the large bay window which reveals the glories of sunrises over the sea, and Fan across the room in an alcove where those first rays don't reach. But even so, little cracks have already formed between the two. If it were not for Fan's mental hopscotch, he could assume full command of the Thames with a loyal crew behind him. If it were not for Ave's claustrophobia, she could do the same. And ever since Fan accidentally walked in on his sister 'entertaining' a guest, he has started to spend more and more of his nights in a hammock strung in the depths of the ship, in the deeper levels where his sister dares not go. Ave worries about his growing introversion, but can't seem to find a remedy as of yet. -Deathblows (name and function):-- -Other notes: Ave and Fan wear a 'luck braid'--in the traditions of sailors wearing a gold earring to pay for their fee into the underworld in case they drown, the pair wear a set of metal beads woven into a thin braid of hair near one of their ears. Ave has silver beads threaded with gold and matched with blue, and Fan wears a set of tiny gold beads with shell to match. It is the closest the both of them will get to rabid superstition--Ave will unbraid and rebraid hers at times to restring the beads, but only when she's safe in her quarters. Fan does his less rarely, and doesn't like doing it if there's even a hint of danger around, since his father was killed when he had had his luck braid down. -Gear name: Like his sister, Fan has no Gear of his own. He does know how to pilot a basic one from the number of times he's performed underwater repairs. -Gear model: n/a -Height: n/a -Weight: n/a -Gear description: n/a -Class: n/a -Primary function: n/a -Weapon(s): n/a -Abilities/Disabilities: n/a -How your character acquired the gear: n/a
