                      The Final Run of the 611 on Saluda Grade

   These two photos are of the 611 on her final run up the famous Saluda Grade. These shots were taken as the engine approached the town of Saluda N.C. The engine lost tractive force between the two pictures. The train had all brakes set while they built up additional steam pressure. Once the 611 had enough pressure in her boiler, she released the brakes and made the crest of the grade. This brought a rousing round of cheers from all the rail fans present.
