This is the actual prop of the Rail Gun used in the movie Eraser starring Arnold Schhwarzenegger.  According to the story, this gun used a system of electromagnetic rails to accellerate projectiles to "near-light" speed.

The gun's sight is also interesting, it used some sort of infrared/nightvison/xray technology.

While none of this is currently possible, it is under experiment.
