This photo is of flames
coming through the top floor windows. The roof was still in place
and the huge room was full of flame...

Those flames are some
20 feet tall! Below is the day after of the same spot.

The floor was some
5" thick. Three crossed layers of heart pine. They were oiled
when the building was used as a thread mill to keep dust down.
As you can see the massive cast beam couldn't hold as long as
some of the second floor boards. The areas above and below the
windows are 3 solid bricks thick...
