TRAMS STOP HERE Newark City Subway Album |
Amid construction, car 24 pauses at the northern terminus of Franklin Avenue before returning downtown. Note new station canopies and decorative light poles. |
Leaving Franklin, cars stop at Heller Parkway (not shown). Two stops down from Franklin Avenue is Davenport Avenue, alongside scenic Branch Brook Park. Early spring, and prematurely warm temperatures bring a whisp of green to the trees along the subway's open cut. Outbound car 19 slows to a stop at Davenport as car 12 speeds away inbound. |
South of Davenport are stops at Bloomfield Avenue and Park Avenue (not shown). Having passed those stations, the motorman of venerable car 4 starts a staccato ringing of the trolley's electric bell before proceeding inbound across Orange Street, the line's only grade crossing. Interstate 280 looms overhead, while the tracks of the former Delaware, Lackawanna & Western main line cross underneath the line a few yards behind the car. |
Immediately south of the crossing is Orange Street station. The new island platform at left lies waiting for LRVs. |
This is Norfolk Street, the last surface station before the cars duck underground. |
With another car hard on its heels, car 2 picks up a solitary passenger at Warren Street. |
After Warren Street comes Washington Street (not shown) and here, Broad Street, the line's original southern terminus. From Broad Street, cars continue southeast to the end of the line at Penn Station. |
