Turtle Puzzle

Turtle, turtle, turtle,
Ever so minty green,
I wonder...
What have your eyes seen?

Do they see the birds that fly above?
Or do they see the eyes of your one true love?
Do they shy away from the bright light of the dawn?
Can they see what's beyond my front lawn?

And what are your dreams, your hopes, and your wishes?
Would you fly with the birds or swim like the fishes?
Would you sing beautifully like a dove?
Or would you grow arms to hold the one you love?

I wonder do you think about things?
As men do, when their minds grow wings?
Do you think only about your meal today,
And all the work that you must do?
Or do you think upon the one you love, all day
And all night; as men are oft to do?

If I had but one wish, it would be to hear you speak;
So that I could hear from you the answers which I seek.
