Parramatta 10 miler
I have run many times the shorter runs (1m,2m,5m) in this event
but only once in 1997 the 10 mile event. This at the time was my
second longest ever race. I went out at 6 min/mile pace but found
it very hard to judge pace. Unfortunately this race has no kilometre
or mile markers. It is 2 little laps and 4 bigger laps around
parramatta park so distance can be judged in a very approximate way.
Anyway the run has been on for a long time run by different clubs
and is now run by Hills. The run is unfortunately not as popular as
once. In 1997 there may not have been even 100 people in the 10 miler.
I have heard stories of 100's of runners running this race with
winners running 48 minutes. I think this may have been before I
came into this world though.
My experiences of this race were very painful. The course is
fairly flat with a deceptive hill in the bigger lap. I ran the last
3 or 4km absolutely on auto pilot and finished in 61:34. Not too bad
but not what I wanted. If you want a big fancy run this one is not
for you but this race is cheap and a good down to earth run.
