I yearn to be like Thee, to live not one iota out from my self,
to make not a single move without the express consent of Thy
Father, and to respond WITH ALACRITY to His slightest Desire.
 
I awake this morning, conscious of waves of fear washing over
me as surf over the sand of the shore.  Fear of facing another
day, with its unknown demands.  Fear of being swallowed up in
the lives and affairs of others, and losing myself.  Fear of
truly seeing what lurks in the shadows of my being, of learning
that I have nothing to give, of truly knowing myself to be the
epitome of weakness and vulnerability, a pitiful mass of
humanity.  Fear that, to step into the day without my carefully
contrived defenses is to approach certain death...  But I
cannot shake off this increasing consciousness of my shameful
humanity; once awakened, I cannot return to sleep.
 
Jesus, help me to die as Thou didst--fully embracing earthly
life, and fully loving humanity.  I open myself to receive of
Thee that portion of Thyself needed for this day given me...
