Beau's Page

Beau is our 7 1/2 year old half Great Dane. We adopted him from the Louisiana SPCA on Japonica Street in New Orleans when he was only 6 lbs. and 6 weeks old. The vets at the SPCA told us he wouldn't get over 60 lbs. We doubted that. He grew up to weigh 100 lbs! Although he is smaller than most Danes, he is bigger than most any other dog in the neighborhood!

We were going to adopt the alpha female in the litter when we adopted him. Beau climbed right up my neck from the cage as we pulled his sister out. We played with her and decided to think about it overnight since she was going to grow up to be such a big dog. When we came back the next day, she was gone and we decided to take him. We were going to name the female "Belle" because she was so beautiful and because I speak French. So, we just made the name masculine and called him "Beau" which was also appropriate. As you can see, he is a handsome boy.
