Well, lots of people are rippin CD's, but what about other formats??? like vinyl and cassettes. Lots of people have them still..they are cheap, and the players recorders can be had anywhere, so obviously some people are taking this mp3 thing to the next step. This subject also has been asked numerous times on the Newsgroups, SO, to save the hassle of retyping and such, I've written a little tutorial on how to convert your cassettes or even vinyl to mp3's and vice versa to some degree, in an effort to educate the people who want to. To make it compatible, it is a txt file, stored in a zip file, for downloadable purposes...pretty small..about 2 k..and hopefully you will put it to good use!!!!I've also included a tutorial on how to get more out of your cassette deck as far as quality is concerned, and a straight vinyl to mp3 tutorial!!! enjoy!
Here also, is a Mp3 FAQ written by Phat Bass, which also give you the basics regarding mp3, and it is quite useful! thanks to Phat Bass to take the time to write the FAQ!!!
AUDACITY No matter what or how you set up the analog audio transfer to digital and then to mp3, you'll need an audio editor. Some software you can buy in stores says you can do it automatically, split the tracks on an LP or cassette, but success varies. Nothing is better then cutting it up yourself, albeit being tedious. Audacity is a nice freeware editor and seems to becoming a freeware standard for audio editors. If you can cut and paste in MS word or any word processor, you can use audacity.
