Warner Bros Studio Facilities I've read on the net where this is the best Hollywood Studio Tour, The virtual tour online isn't half bad itself. You can tour exterior sets in 360 degrees (just install the needed plug in) see the town square from "The Dukes of Hazzard" among other productions it's know for, find out that a studio lot is like a mini city, with stores and virtually every need you might come across in doing a production. It's a GREAT web site for a movie fan.
MGM.COM Another great site for a movie fan. The big attraction for me here is the movie library. You can search the MGM database of films spanning 7 decades, plus the web sites devoted to the current projects and subscribe to the free newsletter. it's one of the better movie studio web sites, definitely something for a lion to roar about.
StarLost-The Word Sci Fi writer Harlan Ellison would no doubt like to forget this series (more details on the site!!). shot in the early 1970's in Toronto, and airing on the CTV network in Canada, this SciFi series premise was how three people who grew up on what they thought was a regular planet, discover that's it actually a "ark", a spaceship on a collison course with a sun, and their travels thoughtout the ship discovering the other "biospheres" that make up the ark, and their efforts to get the ark back on course. OK, the series was a really cheesy production, but like anything on TV, it has it's followers. I was a child when this hit the air, so it's neat to find this site and realize it wasn't a figment of my imagination.
Sitcom's Online This is a great site for anything sitcom, focusing on US sitcoms, and very current. From the latest (like "Bob Patterson") to the obsecure (remember "Hello Larry"? I do...) this site seems to be very indepth (hell, they even have a scan of a ticket for a taping of "Hello Larry") just goes to show you, that no matter what your passion, there seems to be a web site for it.
Seeing Stars In Hollywood-The TV Studios Are you like me and ever wonder where your favorite TV shows are (or were) shot???? I was always reading closing credits of TV shows as a child (yes, and I can probably have fun watching paint dry as well...hehehehehe) but seriously, some interesting trivia can come from this to baffle people at parties. This site is one way to do it. I personally didn't know that Archie's 704 Hauser St home in "All In the Family" actually had two studio homes during the life of the series, the second being shared by numerous other sitcoms of the 1970's. In fact, in addition to finding out where Gilligan's Island and WKRP was shot, among many other TV shows, there's some great history on the studios themselves, a lot of them date back to the early days of Hollywood..and the site also often includes other productions shot at the older studios over the years. A great resource if you are interested in the "behind the scenes" aspect of the entertainment industry like I am.
LA Center Studios This is a rather detailed site, unlike some on the net, on the background workings of a movie studio, for the prospective movie producer. Sure, it maybe boring as hell to some, but if you want to get a glimpse at what a sound stage looks like and what facilities you can expect a movie studio to provide (which can be surprising...they even do drapes and the carpet. This just maybe a nice peak into the world of movie making.
Hollywood Locations Another interesting site, if you are into behind the scenes stuff. Targetting the location scout, this is a virtual "location" browser of some of the best locations in hollywood for filming.(how many of these places have you seen on TV and in the movies???) divided into catagories for escalators to churches, and all these places are exclusively represented by this site (and you thought just people had agents!!!)
The Art Of Foley A great Thanks to professional foley artist Philip Rodrigues Singer for this site. I have always been interested in Foley work in movies...what is Foley???? Actually it started out as WHO is foley, but the whole process was eventually known after it's creator, Jack Foley, and will make you look at your next watching of a movie or TV show with a whole new light, with some neat tips on doing it for yourself, which admittingly, I have done over the years (more these days with my minidisc recorder) in working on a SFX CD for my use (you know how much sound ideas charges for a pro library???) In any event, if movies are your interest, or you are a fan of the TV show "how'd they do that??" this might be just for you...because it explains "how'd they do that" sound in movies...
MAX HEADROOM.COM He came and went probably too fast!!! Max Headroom was probably the most memorable representative that Coke ever had! He also had a TV series at the height of his fame (circa 1987 on ABC) and starred Canadian Max Frewer as Max Headroom! If you grew up in the 80's, it's likely that you remember Max, and this site is the place to be if you are looking for max stuff.
FOX BAJA STUDIOS Just when you heard enough about titanic, I found this site..and it rather interesting. This studio in Rosarito Mexico, was BUILT for the filming James Cameron's blockbuster epic in june of 1996, and is a fully functioning studio specializing in water tanks-which I suppose is obvious."
STAR TREK CONTINUUMAs you probably know Star Trek has been Paramount's bread and butter for 45 years, since it's success in syndication in the 70's...in fact, Majel Barrett Roddenberry, the computer voice in all of the Star Trek series, and "Christine Chapel" in the original series commented at a convention I attended "Paramount would be a parking lot if it weren't for Star Trek." and when Star Trek took off in syndication in the 70's, Paramount was going through tough financial times, so that statement is probably true to some extent....anyways, this is a one stop shop for Star Trek...with news, a library computer for episodes, characters and photos, weekly summaries for episodes of DS9 and Voyager, links to Star Trek newsgroups...and whole lot more. It's all in one space and I suppose a dream come true for a lot of "Trekkers".
DIRECTORY OF CBC TELEVISION SERIES 1952 to 1982 Very little of canadian television history is really in existance, probably because we treat it a lot like second class. We watch American TV for the most part, and CBC series like "King Of Kensington" and "The Beachcomers" are sort of like a guilty pleasure for anyone who actually watches them....well, short of "Hockey Night In Canada" anyway..hahaha, but the ole stereotype of "Canadian TV basically SUCKS" is changing with the current crop of canadian comedy such as "Royal Canadian Air Farce" and "This Hour Has 22 Minutes". Still, if you wanna try to remember a CBC TV show, this is the place...check out the show "SPACE COMMAND" which starred a very young "JAMES DOOHAN" who took the helm of "Space Command", in Canada, before signing up aboard the "Starship Enterprise" in Hollywood on "StarTrek".
