David Jones Concert Photos from Mt. Pocono, PA

Taken by Sharon Meck on 9/6/98

We waited in line from 2:00 till 8:30 in a hot, glass enclosed non-airconditioned hallway in the Poconos. There were no chairs, people just sat in the floor. Then as time drew near people started cutting in line by simply walking in the doors from the outside of the building and ignoring those of us who had been in line for over 6 hours! This caused a panic in the hall and everybody began pushing forward to close ranks and stop the people from cutting in line. This meant that we now had to stand shoulder to shoulder in this hothouse of a hallway to protect our place in line.

At 3:00 I took a head count. We were 20th in line. There was only 19 people ahead of me at 3:00. Then somehow friends of friends kept showing up and getting ahead of us. One man wanted me to move my bag so he could sit down in front of me. I had been there 2 hours before he showed up. When this crush forward began I estimated that I had suddenly became about 150th in line instead of 20th. Some people are so rude!

Finally, when they opened the door at about 8:30, we found out that the management was seating people where they wanted them to sit. They could have told us that before we sat in the floor for 6 -1/2 hours! It was just luck that as we were passing the stage area the management said, ok let them sit wherever they want so long as there is not a reserved sign on the table. Apparently, the band was able to reserve the tables in front of the stage for their guests. I spotted a table, 3 away from the stage, without a blue reserved sign and grabbed it fast. So that is where these pictures were taken from.

Unbelievably, the man who wanted me to move my bag actually found a seat right next to the stage! I waited at least 2 hours more then him and he got a ring side seat!

The room was so packed that the chairs were actually touching each other and once seated, you were there to stay. So I was unable to give David the roses we had bought. They say that nothing brings people together like a little adversity. We made some really good friends in that hallway. We had time to get to know each other. Everybody talked about their favorite Teen Idol. All their memories and encounters. One couple was there all the way from San Francisco specifically to see the show. They were terrific people and we've stayed in contact via email.

I can tell you that the Mt. Airy Lodge is pretty run down. Everybody was talking about the condition of their rooms. The public restrooms were appalling. There was toilet paper and paper towels running out into the hallways. We were told that the rooms went for $295.00 per night and they were horrible. I tell you this so that you will understand the little joke that David pulled when he entered the stage. You will see what I mean in the first and second pictures below. We figure he was asking if we noticed that this was a sh*tty place. Maybe we took it wrong, but that's what it said to us. We agreed. David you were right on there. Personally, it would take Bobby Sherman to get me back to that place again. I wouldn't go there for anyone else.

I think David works very hard on stage for the fans. He is always energetic, animated, entertaining, good looking, and engaging. I have nothing but respect and admiration for David Jones. I want to say that I really appreciate the wonderful job he is doing and the huge effort he puts forth to entertain us. Thank you David.

There are 20 pictures downloading now, but it should only take a couple of minutes. The photo lab lost one of my rolls and I think the missing one contained the balance of David's performance in Mt. Airy. They have put a trace on it, so maybe it will show up someday.
