Pass? That would be calamitous, because you haven't mentioned spades so far. Partner might think you were proposing seven diamonds!
Six spades? You have no reason to think this will be on. Remember, partner was "pushed".
Double? It's the sensible call.
Bobby Goldman, for the USA, bid six spades and did well to go only one down.
Six hearts doubled would have been three down after the likely club lead.
At the other table East-West competed less ferociously, so N-S played in five spades, just made, +450.
If you doubled six hearts you gain 2 IMPs. If you attempted the slam you lose 11 IMPs.
