DUNCANSON, John Victor
DUNCANSON, John Victor - 80, Falmouth, Hants Co., passed away on Thursday,
January 14,
1999, in Hants Community Hospital, Windsor. Born August 25, 1918, in Windsor, Hants Co., he
was a son of the late John Maxner and Adelaide (Aylward) Duncanson. He attended schools in
Falmouth and Windsor and graduated from Queen's University, Kingston, Ont. He served in the
Canadian Armed Forces between 1940 and 1946. After returning from overseas, he was employed
in the personnel and labour relations field in Alberta, New Brunswick, Ontario and Quebec. He
retired from the industry in 1981 and returned to the family farm in Falmouth, wintering in Fort
Lauderdale, Fla. John had a keen interest in the history of Hants County and his writings include the
history of the early settlement and genealogies of the founding families of Falmouth, Newport,
Rawdon and Douglas. His most recent research covered Nova Scotian vessels shipwrecked or
disabled in the United States coastal waters. He served for some time on the executive of the West
Hants Historical Society and the Clan Donnachaidh Society of Nova Scotia. He held memberships
in the Royal Nova Scotia Historical Society; Genealogical Society of Nova Scotia; Kings County
Historical Society; Bishop Family Association; Broward County Genealogical Society (Florida);
84th Regiment of Foot Regimental Association; Royal Canadian Legion, Hants County Branch 9,
Windsor and the Nova Scotia Branch of the Royal Scottish Country Dance Society. He was a
member of Christ Church (Anglican), Windsor. His contributions to the heritage of his native
province have been recognized by a number of organizations, Canadian Historical Association, West
Hants Historical Society, Genealogical Society of Nova Scotia and Federation of Nova Scotian
Heritage. In 1993 he was named planter scholar by Acadia University for his research on the New
England Planter migration to Nova Scotia. He is survived by his sisters, Elizabeth (Mrs. Harry
Andrews), Toronto; June (Mrs. Robert Campbell), Ottawa; several nieces, nephews, grandnieces
and grandnephews. He was predeceased by sisters, Barbara Duncanson, Gloria Mosher; brother,
Charles in infancy. Visitation 2-4, 7-9 p.m. Sunday in Lindsay's Windsor Funeral Home, 194 King
St., from where Royal Canadian Legion, Hants County Branch 9, Windsor, will hold a legion tribute
7 p.m. Sunday. Funeral service 2 p.m. Monday, January 18, in Christ Church, Kings Street,
Windsor. Burial to follow in Centre Falmouth Cemetery. Donations may be made to Canadian Cancer Society.
