      Elmer Blair Hatfield

      HATFIELD, Elmer Blair - 64, Port Hastings, died Saturday, February 10, 2001, at home. Born in Windsor, N.S., he was a son of the late Lewis and Freda (Patterson) Hatfield. He was an engineer and a graduate of Saint Mary's University and TUNS. He was operations superintendent for Georgia Pacific Corporation, Sugar Camp. Past President of Port Hawkesbury Lions Club and a former King Lion. A former member of Port Hawkesbury Curling Club and a very frequent blood donor. Surviving are sons, Brian (Cherie), Hammonds Plains; Brad (fiancée Hanya Chmara), Halifax; sisters, Delores (Glen) Kynock, Carlotta Cummins, Bernice (Stephen McManus, all of Windsor; several nieces and nephews; and a close friend, Georgie MacDonald, Donkin. Predeceased by a brother-in-law, Moody Cummins. Cremation has taken place. Visitation will be 7-9 p.m. this evening (Monday) in the Dennis Haverstock Funeral Home, Port Hawkesbury. Memorial service will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday in St. David's United Church, Port Hastings, Rev. Debbie Aiken officiating, assisted by Rev. Hughie D. MacDonald. Family flowers only. Memorial donations may be made to the Palliative Care Unit of St. Martha's Regional Hospital, Antigonish or Canadian Cancer Society.

      Olive Pearl Hennigar

      HENNIGAR, Olive Pearl - 87, East Noel, went to be with her Lord on Tuesday, May 8, 2001, in Hants Community Hospital, Windsor. Born in East Noel, she was a daughter of the late Harold and Alberta Jane (Densmore) Hamilton. She began teaching school in Digby at the age of 17. Olive taught at many schools in her area and retired as principal of Maitland Elementary School. She was always active in the United Church, first in East Noel and in later years Maitland. Olive will be remembered by many for her "helping hands of love" and gentle quiet ways. She was a wonderful mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She will be sadly missed by her son, Arthur and wife Alice, Kennetcook; daughter, Patricia and husband Kenneth, Calgary, Alta.; grandchildren, Jeffrey and Gregory Hennigar, Stephen and Jennifer Scott; great-grandson, Dylan; half-brothers, Carl, Lawrence, Lou and Olie Hamilton, all of Noel Shore; half-sister, Hazel Roscoe, Kentville. She was predeceased by her husband, Chester Hennigar. Visitation will be 2-4, 7-9 p.m. today in Withrow MacMillan Funeral Home, East Noel from where funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, K. Wayne Yorke L.M. officiating. Interment will be in Noel Cemetery. Family flowers only. Donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society or IWK Health Centre Foundation.

      Inez Charlotte McCulloch

      McCULLOCH, Inez Charlotte - 81, Minasville, Hants Co., passed away peacefully June 14, 2001, at home. She was a daughter of the late Greeno and Charlotte (Wright) Scott. She was a member of Noel United Church, Noel UCW and Double M Club. She also enjoyed playing cards, crossword puzzles, baking and her family and friends. Surviving are her daughter, Bernice White, Burnaby, B.C.; sons, Charlie (Charlene) McCulloch, Tennecape; Robie (Beth) McCulloch, Beaver Bank; Kevin (Liz) McCulloch, Mt. Lehman, B.C.; grandchildren, Stephanie (Jeff), Charles (Stephanie), Erin, Andrew, Laura, Graham, Jillian; great-grandchildren, Katie, Mathew; sisters, Lillian Naas, Minasville; Freda (Vincent) Ells, West Mount, C.B. She was predeceased by husband, Floyd; brothers, Lawrence, Aubrey and Frank; sisters, Alda, Mary and Effie. Cremation has taken place under the direction of Ettinger Funeral Home, Shubenacadie. Celebration of life will be held Monday, June 18, at 2 p.m. in Noel United Church, Rev. Sandra Cox officiating. Reception to follow in the church hall. Burial in Moose Brook Cemetery. Family flowers only by request, memorial donations may be made to the Noel United Church (general fund) or a charity of choice.

      Lewis Wilbert Reid


      REID, Lewis Wilbert - 87, passed away October 12, 2001, in Hants Community Hospital, Windsor. Born May 16, 1914, in Moose Brook, Hants Co., he was a son of the late Wilburt and Alice (Coldwell) Reid. Lewis was a rural mail driver, farmer, woodsman, carpenter and merchant, retiring in 1981. He was the first fire chief of Moose Brook/Minesville Volunteer Fire Dept. He will be remembered for his love of camping and his storytelling. Surviving are his wife of 64 years, Violet (Cochrane); daughters, Roma (Curtis) White, Moose Brook; Marilyn (Robert) Grace, Nine Mile River; grandchildren, Cindy (Tony) Boudreau, Shelley (Kenny) White, Crystal (Todd) (White) Murphy, Malcolm (Michele) White; Lori (Phillip) Vroegh, Mathew Grace (Jacqueline Lawrence), Chris Grace; 12 great-grandchildren; sister, Ruth Tomlinson, Minasville; brother, Gordon (Quinnie) Reid, Moose Brook; several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by son, Malcolm, sister, Blanche Langley; brother, Everette; a grandson in infancy. Visitation 7-9 p.m. today, funeral service 2 p.m. Sunday, October 14, 2001, both in J. Wilson Allen Funeral Home, Hwy. 354, Kennetcook, Hants Co. Interment in Moose Brook Cemetery, Moose Brook. Donations to the Moose Brook Chapel or Moose Brook Cemetery fund.

      Larry Avard Neily

      NEILY, Larry Avard - 50, Nictaux, died October 22, 2001, at home. Born in Middleton, he was a son of Arthur and Irene (Mosher) Neily, Nictaux. He was chairperson of the Nictaux Baptist Church Council. He was past director of Annapolis County Federation of Agriculture and past treasurer of Middleton and District Minor Hockey Association. He was a partner in A.I. Neily & Son Farms, Nictaux. Besides his parents, he is survived by his wife, the former Lorie Lightfoot; daughters, Jessica (Mike Gaudet), Halifax; Alicia, Nictaux; son, Jeremy, Halifax; brother, Glen, Nictaux. Visiting 2-4, 7-9 p.m. Wednesday in Warren T. Roop Funeral Home, Middleton. Funeral service 2 p.m. Thursday in the Nictaux Baptist Church, Rev. Bill McLeod officiating. Burial in Nictaux Cemetery. Family flowers only. Donations to the Mid-Valley Palliative Care and MRHS Band Association.

      Eva "Jean" Cochrane

      COCHRANE, Eva Jean - 80, Sunset Residential Centre, Pugwash, formerly of Minasville, died November 17, 2001, in North Cumberland Memorial Hospital, Pugwash. Born April 21, 1921, in Minasville, she was a daughter of the late Thomas "Mac" and Annie (Lingard) Cochrane. In 1970, Jean moved to Sunset Residential Centre where she enjoyed her many friends and activities they had at the centre. She is survived by sisters, Dorothy Tomlinson, Dykeland Lodge, Windsor; Violet Reid, Moose Brook; brother, Harry (Hazel), Minasville; sister-in-law, Emma Cochrane, Windsor; many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by sister, Alma; brothers, Randolph and John "Jack". Service 2 p.m. today in Moose Brook Chapel, Rev. Janice Fizzard officiating. Interment in Moose Brook Cemetery, Moose Brook. Donations may be made to Sunset Residential Centre, P.O. Box 130, Pugwash, NS B0K 1L0. Arrangements entrusted to J. Wilson Allen Funeral Home, Highway 354, Kennetcook.

      Dorothy Winnifred Tomlinson

      Dorothy Winnifred Tomlinson - 91 - Windsor, N.S., passed away December 18, 2001 at Dykeland Lodge, Windsor. Born in Scotch Village, she was the daughter of the late Thomas and Annie (Lingard) Cochrane. Dorothy was a school teacher for 32 years teaching in Noel Shore, Moose Brook, Scotch Village, St. Croix, Falmouth, and Windsor. Following her retirement she continued her love of teaching by volunteering her time to students. She is survived by daughters, Joan Stewart, Enfield, Anne Elliott, Halifax; Mary Lou Hartlen, Windsor, Ontario; son, Keith (Doreen), Garlands Crossing; grandchildren Carol, Cheryl, Gordon, Dale, Chris, David, Devra, Darlene and Tanya; 11 great-grandchildren; brother, Harry, Minasville; sister, Violet Reid, Moose Brook; sister-in-law, Emma Cochrane, Windsor; and son-in-law, Russ Hill. Dorothy was predeceased by her husband, Harris; daughter, Kaye; great-grandson, Scott Dudra; sister, Jean; brothers, John ("Jack") and Randolph; sons-in-law, Eldon Stewart and Les Hartlen. Special thanks to the staff at Dykeland Lodge for their wonderful care over the past 8 years. Funeral service will be held at 2:00pm on Saturday, December 22, 2001 in Lohnes~Beazley Memorial Chapel, 419 Albert St., Windsor, the Rev. Elizabeth Johnson officiating, with burial in Maplewood Cemetery. No visitation by request. Family flowers only. Donations in memory may be made to Friends of Dykeland or a charity of choice.
