I have neglected working on this part for a while, so I have a lot to catch up on. First, Evelyn's Downfall, longtime fixture on the Hazard scene, has officially called it quits. R.I.P. Ed and Jay formed a short lived Inshore, which featured the likes of Travis Cornett on Bass, Anthony Fugate (former breaking point lg&v) on guitar, and Kendrick Lewallen on Vocals. They had potential, but "something" happened. From there, Subside has been formed. taking the boys back to where Evelyn's Downfall left off, with thier traditional emo feel. I hope they decide to keep this for a while, because I like it.

We're in the works of creating a venue in downtown Hazard. Details later. On that note, Louisville paid a sweet visit to the EK scene with PINEWOOD DERBY playing the shown in Prestonsburg on the 24th. They loved it, as did we, and have since referred several other bands from elsewhere to play here. It could be the pick up we've been looking for. They could create the exposure we need for this scene.

BREAKING POINT has picked up Derek Mullins (Misled Youth) and Steve Smith (ditto) on guitars, and Chris Jett is replacing Anthony Fugate on Vocals. You'll see more from these guys.

The show at Big creek this past week seemed to boost the overall morale of the major participants in the area, showing that there IS potential here for a thriving scene. Sure we'd all talked about our "scene" before, but I don't think any of us could have called it a true scene until last saturday. Everyone helped each other out, nobody fought, (whew!) and everyone had a good time. Agendas were kept, and an area comp was officially released. We're now on the road... after many years,it's very welcome. Also, an area venue is now in the works for good. Dubbed "Plinko's", (after the game, of course,) it will be located in a workhorse of the scene's backyards.... but we all need to pull together to help build it. Construction has been set to begin over spring break, weather permitting, and we need everyone's help.
2/20/99 [ The EKHC scene is finally enjoying a growth spurt. First up, Carmalita. They play some crazy as hell,Polatka-type powerviolence . I recently had the chance to produce their first demo, at Vista Lane studios on 2/19/99, and I have to say that you have to see them to believe it. Crazy shit. Next up, Inshore. This consists of three parts Evelyn's Downfall, (J.R., Eddie & Jon), One part Breaking Point, (Anthony), and Kendrick Lewallen on Vocals. Shake well, stir, serve. I haven't heard them, but they say they have a metallic feel. It should be interesting.

12/22/98 [ After musch debate, Pikeville finally has a skatepark. Simply dubbed, "A Place To Skate," the 2500 sq. foot outdoor arena boats ramps of all sizes and skill levels with picnic tables and rails of assorted flavors scattered throughout the park. Located next to and overseen by the Pikeville YMCA, five bucks will get you inside for the day, and pads, if you don't have them, are another two bones. The park is closed for the winter, but will re open on may 27th. You'll probably see me there when it does. Also.. two bands, High Hopes and Stale Cartune, are rising like the Pheonix from the ashes of the fallen Pikeville punk/ H/C scene. These two could very well spark another great movement from this town. ]

12/18/98 [ The Office, a fixture of the JC music scene has closed it's doors somewhere around it's one year anniversary. On The other hand, The Johnson City Collective , has re opened it's doors, though still at the same location. Lets just hope that it's run like a collective with input from all this time. They seem to be off to a great start though, with JC's first show of the new year featuring Boston act Euclid, and following up with a mini fest featuring six bands including The Fall Of Lenningrad, also from Boston, and Two Ky. acts, Misled Youth and High Hopes.

11/28/98 [ The youth of Perry and surrounding counties are still without a steady venue. After dilligent and determined work to find a vacant building within the city, we've come to one conclusion: we need your help. If anyone reading this would be willing to host a basement throwdown,ie:(like Kendrick's shows) please contact XcjX , or Ed . All proceeds from the initial two or three shows would be put toward the first and last month's rent on an area venue. We need eveyone's help in order for this to work though. We need the best possible turnout to each of these. In other news, Misled Youth and Glorystar are currently in the studio working on new material. No release dates at this time though. Misled Youth is preparing for the summer tour with Plan9,and possibly 77 Left. (they're unconfirmed just yet.) Dates for the Knoxville ,Nashville St.Louis, and Louisville shows will be posted soon.

11/15/98 [ it seems like the constant bitching about the absence of shows exerted by me and others has prompted some peeps into throwing some bashes. Go to the show page . In other recent news, Jason Ritchie of Zero Tolerance has been replaced with Misled Youth Bassist Chris Jett on guitar, for reasons untold. The band has also changed thier name to Breaking Point.. perhaps to celebrate the change..(?) *NEW* Misled Youth have finished recording the six song ep entitled "six songs of revolution". It was recorded and mixed at Vista Lane studios. Thanks to Ben Ed and Jr for all the help. We can't say how much you guys have helped out! Word has it that Eddie Sherman from Evelyn's Downfall has taken Jen Johnson's share of Skullboy Recordings, and as the first release with him on board, Misled Youth and Evelyn's Downfall may be putting out a split ep very soon. BUT, it's planned to be a bit different.. Misled Youth will put a H/C twist on two Evelyn's Downfall songs, and E.D will put an emo twist on two M.Y. songs. You have to get your grubby little hands on it when it's done. Mail me about prices, . ]
