The Easter Egg Hunt
The idea for this poem

I got the idea for this poem from an article in Dear Abby. It was about a little girl at an Easter Egg Hunt. Many kids put eggs in front of her cane so she could find them.

The Easter Egg Hunt

The day was bright; the kids were all in a line
ready for the bell to signal the start
It was the day of the big Easter Egg Hunt
My daughter stood there among the children
eagerly anticipating the signal to begin
I had dreaded this moment since last years heartbreak:
she went away crying, no eggs in her basket
because from birth she was blind
Suddenly the whistle blew and the children were off
My daughter slowly poked at sones with her white cane
tears slid down her face
as she recalled last years pain
Out of nowhere a freckled face boy placed half
of his eggs in front of my daughter's white cane
