Craft-related Titles

BUCKLAND'S COMPLETE BOOK OF WITCHCRAFT (Raymond Buckland)
Sometimes affectionately called "The Big Blue Book" or "ABC
to the 3rd Degree," this is an informative book for the
novice, neatly arranged into various lessons.

     THE SPIRAL DANCE (Starhawk)
Be sure you grab the 10th Anniversary Edition, with its
updates and addendums over the original.

DRAWING DOWN THE MOON (Margot Adler)
A great big overview of the neopagan movement. The chapter on
feminism and witchcraft is especially notable for its
presentation of alternative viewpoints--that is, ideas beyond
the usual reverse sexism and depiction of Goddess as a cosmic
cross between Donna Reed and Pamela Lee.

CIRCLES, GROVES AND SANCTUARIES (Dan & Pauline Campanelli)
An interesting look at the sacred spaces and rituals of pagans
          of all stripes.

PERSUASIONS OF THE WITCHES' CRAFT (Tamara Luhrmann)
A scholarly look at the modern Craft in Britain, this book
was developed from Luhrmann's doctoral dissertation.

WITCHCRAFT TODAY and THE MEANING OF WITCHCRAFT (Gerald Gardner)
Uncle Gerald had his faults and failings, but few could
argue the importance of his contributions to the Craft.

WITCHES' BIBLE COMPLEAT (Janet & Stewart Farrar)
Although the Farrars' at times lean a bit too close to the
"seperate spheres" type of gender-typed craft for my comfort,
this book is an invaluable resource. Good luck finding it.

THE WITCHES GODDESS and THE WITCHES GOD (Janet & Stewart Farrar)
See above. These titles are easier to locate.

LID OFF THE CAULDRON (Patricia Crowther)
There are some in the Trad community that have problems with
this lady, but I feel she has many valid points to teach and
          besides, I like her style.

ANY title by Doreen Valiente is a must.

Other Titles of Interest

     THE NEW VICTORIANS (Renee Denfeld)
A brilliant investigation of the man-bashing, victimization-
centered, stereotype-laden ideology that passes for feminism
in the late 20th century. Her chapter on the Goddess worship
movement will make your eyes fall out. Read the book!

THE MISMEASURE OF WOMAN (Carol Tavris)
Tavris debunks, with sound scholarship and luscious humor,
the more prevalent modern myths, around which many people
today base their craft practices. Read the book!

     PRIESTESSES (Joyce Tyldesley)
An archaeological examination of the lives of ancient
priestesses, long on facts and light on goofy glamorization.

Egyptology & Egyptian Magick/Religion

TEMPLES, TOMBS & HIEROGLYPHS and RED LAND, BLACK LAND (Barbara Mertz)
Well-researched and engagingly written histories of ancient
Egyptian life, religion and culture. Two of the best.

EGYPTIAN MAGICK (Gerald & Betty Schueler)
A practical book of rituals and ceremonies for guiding the
seeker to deeper understanding of Egyptian high and low
magick. Not recommended for complete novices.

INVOCATION OF THE GODS (Ellen Cannon Reed)
A concise and simple introduction to Wiccan-style Egyptian
          worship.

     AWAKENING OSIRIS (Normandi Ellis)
A poetic modern translation of the Book of the Dead. I can't
          recommend it highly enough.
