What the Heck is a pythia?

PYTHIA: ('Pythoness') Greek. Serpent goddess, daughter of Gaia, who lived near Delphi in the caves of Mount Parnassus. Apollo slew her and took over the Delphic Oracle. The oracular priestesses of Delphi were also called Pythiai (plural); their role continued under Apollo but controlled and interpreted by his priests. (from The Witches' Goddess, Janet & Stewart Farrar)

Who is this "Pythia Blackthorn"

...and why is she saying all these terrible things?!

::clearing throat:: In my Net life, as well as my Magickal life, I
am known as Pythia--Witch, X-Phile, fanfiction author and general
rabble-rouser. I'm the left-brained half of the Blackthorn team,
the logical/practical/skeptical one; I'm most often found at the
center of heated debates, ransacking my own and everyone else's
libraries for obscure bits of information to bolster my arguments,
and pursuing my search not only for the Truth, but for the evidence
to back it up. All this can be maddening at times, for myself as well
as for others...but I try not to take much of anything too deadly
seriously, and to temper my presentation with humor and love.

I'm 31 years old and have been involved with matters occult since
childhood, when I was a voracious reader of anything to do with
witches, mythology, ancient religions, exotic cultures and their
rituals. As a teenager, I began practicing herb and candle magick.
My developing interest in Egyptology led me to begin a practice of
solitary worship and magickal practice based on historical materials
and my own imagination, and my love for the Gods and rituals of this
ancient land remains unchanged to this day. I later found my way
into Wicca, through the man who became my husband; I am a Third
Degree High Priestess in the Gardnerian Tradition (wait--come back!),
but at present am not operating within this system.

I cherish all of my experiences, good and bad, as having woven
themselves into the tapestry of the person I have become, both
magickal and mundane. Further growth and exploration is the
keynote for the current phase of my life, and the development of
this website is a part of that--a way, I envision, for me to discuss
my findings with others, share what I've learned and learn even
more from others who happen by.

Why   did   I   pick   the   name   "Pythia"?

I really like snakes.
