Protector of the Realm

By

Shari D. Holcomb

As a glowing full moon rises high in a twilight sky

You can hear the soft , so soft , whispering sigh

Of a solitary unicorn standing, watchfully, silently by

He watches over the forest deep and his mate, blissfully asleep.

He is the protector of the realm, this night, to all those dreaming.

But come the daylight softly, so softly in streaming

He will give way to the dawning day

As it quickly chases the moon away.

And to his mate’s bed of soft green grass, he will come

And do some dreaming of his own

Until a glowing full moon rises high

Once again in a twilight sky.
