Cleveland Based band
1988
Interview with bassist Dave Belanger
** I first saw this band as Fashion Police a LOOONG time ago , I wasn't even supposed to be "IN" the clubs yet, They were one of the best bands of the time hailing from the cleveland area.  Last year I finally caught up with them again,  after the Alice Cooper show in the flats, they were playing at the Odeon as 1988, and I must say this is one cover band that everyone will enjoy, they are great!!! I highly recommend them!!**--skyler

1. How long has your current line-up been together?
Dave Belanger: The current lineup has been together for about 6 months now. This is the BEST lineup 1988 has ever had, and I couldn't be happier. I've waited years to get a lineup this good together.

 2. Can you tell us who each band member is and a little bit about that person?
Dave Belanger - Bass, backing and sometime lead vocals. Formerly of Fashion Police. I am the all-time guru of Cleveland 80's style hard rock! I've been told that I sing exactly like Lita Ford. Too bad she only had one hit!
Alan Paris - Lead Vocals. sounds like bon jovi, seb bach, vince neil, and bret michaels all rolled into one. A great find for 1988.
Jeff Strainer - Drums. Formerly of the punk outfit "Bop Dead." Jeff is a smart guy. Definately the "coolest" guy I know.
Rob Draye - Guitar, backing vocals. My little brother. Also formerly of Fashion Police. The ultimate 80's style guitarist. Alot of our success is because of Rob.

Daniel Montesanto

3. What was the toughest obstacle to overcome so far in your career?
The death of Hard Rock (hair Metal) in the 90's. Also the murder of my best friend, and Fashion Police vocalist Daniel Montesanto. For more info on this, check out: http://www.ameritech.net/users/daveb/fashpol.htm
 4. What artist(s) has been an inspiration to you ?
POISON! Also Quiet Riot.

 5. Who writes most of your band's music and lyrics? One person or by
 collaboration?
Sorry. We're just the ultimate 80's Hard Rock cover band now. Rob, Jeff,
and I are all completely burned out on the original scene. I spent over
ten years knocking on that door, and the mother fucker never opened up.
I guess I didn't have the "stuff" to make it. However, there's alot of
artists out there on the radio right now that don't have the "stuff"
either!

 6. Where do you see yourselves in five years from now? Still making music or otherwise?
I hope to still be doing 1988. I love this music. Plain and simple.

 7. Do you have any current releases?
Just our demo CD that we send out to clubs. However, all Fashion Police and
Shotgun Wedding releases are still available at:
http://www.ameritech.net/users/daveb/merch.htm

 8. When and where can we catch a live show
We play every weekend in the Northeast Ohio area. Our list of dates can
be found at: http://www.ameritech.net/users/daveb/shows.htm

 9. Is there anything that you'd like to say to the fans or the people who
have supported you throughout the years
Thank You, and we hope you keep supporting us. We will always try to
keep the show "fresh" for you!

7. Do you have any favorite quotes that you'd like to share?
David Lee Roth - "Rule #1, don't sweat the little shit. Rule #2, It's
ALL little shit!"

18. Looking back, what is your fondest memory?
Either playing in Hawaii with Pretty Vacant back in 1990, or just playing in a band with Daniel Montesanto.

19. Do you have any words of wisdom to offer to those that are just starting out ?
Have fun. Make it fun. Don't COUNT on making it, while life passes you by.

20. What is the most embarrassing thing that's ever happened to you?
It's always embarassing to have someone whom you're trying to impress show up to a gig that's totally dead.

21. Do you have any regrets about anything that's happened in your music career? If so, what and why?
I should have moved to L.A. right after High School in 1984, when the
scene was HOT. That's the biggest regret of my life. I just couldn't
pull it together. I finally did move to L.A in 1988, and just caught the
end of the wave. I'm just happy that I experienced the end of the wave,
and didn't miss it completely.
