K J YESUDAS

He has an experience of 34 years and sung more than 30,000 songs
for films in various languages.

He recorded his voice for the first time for a Malyalam film on 14th
November 1961. He is one of the foremost exponents of Classical,
Carnatic, Vocal Music and Leading play back singer in all Indian
languages. He won the National award for play back singer 6 times,
Kerala state awards 16 times and Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh awards
many times.

Recipient of Padmashree Award form Government of India in 1973. He
was honoured with ‘Sangeetha Raja’ in 1974, ‘Sangeetha Chakravarthy’
in 1988 and ‘Sangeetha Sagaram’ in 1989. Also received Doctorate
Award from Annamalai University on 14.12.1989. The 1991 National
Award for the Best Playback Singer was given to Yesudas. This is the
6th National Award that Yesudas has received. He has also received
Lata Mangeshkar Award from the Government of Madhya Pradesh and
Tamil Nadu State Government awards in 1992. He now holds another
title conferred on him by the Kerala Sate ‘Asthana Gayakan’ and
‘Sangeet Natak Academic Award’ for performing arts in media for 1992.
He has also received the National citizen’s Award in 1994. The Nana
Film Weekly Galappole Award in 1996. The Best Play Back Singer
Award was given in 1996 by the Kerala Film Critics Association. He
has also received the award for the best play back singer from Kerala
State in the year 1996.
