1948: Born in small village of Herrawa, in the region of Benghazi.
1977: Entered officer school, following short period at
the Faculty of Tripoli.
In Revolutionary Committees:
Active in repression of student revolt, University of Benghazi.
Directed hunt for dissidents in exile, under pseudonym of
Abdusalam Sherif,
November 1984: Was attacked and seriously wounded,
Abou Salim area of Tripoli.
December 1985 ['84?]: house arrest, failed to assassinate opposition leaders living in Egypt.
1985: Reappeared in Benghazi, given task of dismantling Libyan Hezbollah networks which tried to poison the drinking water of a hotel in Tobrouk where Soviet advisers were staying.
1991: Head of counter-espionage.
Recent Post: One of three directors, Libyan foreign intelligence.
Recent Responsibility: dismantling Libyan Islamic fundamentalist movements.
